Characters: Rhode (dreamz_are_mine) and OPEN When: Monday and Tuesday Febraury 8th and 9th Where: The library Rating: Depends on the thread Summary: Rhode's chilling at the library. Come hang out.
The library was not quite providing the information that Madara was looking for. As much as he hated to admit it, he was not the best when it came to technology. Perhaps it was because he was still stuck in the technology of eighty years ago or that the technology of the day never interested him, but the reason didn't matter.
He hoped that he could find something that could assist him in programing Izuna's PCD without any outside help, but it didn't look like these books would be of much help.
Madara, with a scowl on his face, shoved the book he had been looking at back onto the shelf. This search didn't seem to be going very well.
Rhode was heading down the stacks to return a book on physics she'd just finished, thoughts of vectors dancing through her head. Madara caught her eye, his choice of reading passing the little girl's scrutiny briefly before she set her book down and crept up--not very stealthily--to see what he was up to.
"What ya reading~?" She asked, voice all innocence and curiosity, guileless and sweet. She was more than used to playing this particular part, by now.
"Something about these PCDs...or at least something similar to them."
He glanced down at the little girl, immediately curious about the "innocent" child. There was something...off to say the least. He could feel it. This was not an ordinary child. Even though Madara could tell there was more than met the eye with this one, he would play along with her sweetness.
"Something I'm sure that would be boring to a little girl, such as yourself."
"Hm? Not really. I'm not so good at this technology but that doesn't mean I can't try to help." Rhode looked up at Madara, head tilting to the side int he picture of thoughtful helpfulness.
Books had always been Snape's solace, so it wasn't surprising to find him in one corner of the library, books stacked up high on either side of him. There were ones that dealt with muggle science, ones that dealt with technology of all the different worlds, ones that were on alchemy and different branches of magic than from his own. He lost himself in the pages, letting the smell of old books swirling around him and the carefully inked words calm him, easing some of the tension that had been building up since Merlin knew when.
A small, dark-haired girl peeked over one of the stacks of books, peering over the volumes of various subjects as Rhode stood on tip-toe to get a look at Snape.
"Hey, mister~?" She picked up a book, having to reach above herself to lift it off one of his stacks of bookfort walls. The book was one of advanced chemistry, dangerous and unstable compounds, and scientific theories that should have been well above the level a twelve year old could have any comprehension of. "Can I borrow this one for a little? ♥ It's the next one for what I was reading."
She was staring, not at the book in her own hands, which is what she was asking about, but at the book Snape was reading, trying to see what he was currently researching.
She'd find herself staring at the business end of his wand as she had surprised him, causing him to draw his wand out in defense, eyes narrowed, slamming the nondescript book shut. Taking in the sight of the small girl in front of him, he stored it away, eyes flicking quickly to the book before going back to her, still narrowed. She wasn't a normal twelve year old, and it went beyond her simply wanting to read such an advanced book. Child-like innocence... He had seen too many monsters play that card to fall for it. Besides, he didn't even like children to begin with.
"You expect me to believe that you'll understand what's in that book?"
Rhode stared at the wand with no indication of fear or recognition, just mild confusion. Her look clearly asked Why are you pointing a stick at me? without her actually voicing the question.
She lifted her eyes from the wand to the man when he put it away, tilting her head slightly at the question. "I don't expect you to believe anything~♪ I just asked if I could borrow it. You're really grumpy aren't you?" She leaned her elbows on one of the shorter stacks of books, still holding the tome in question, her body leaned in such a way that she was in high danger of toppling over the book stack as she peered at Snape and then at the piles of books around him.

Some kind soul at the clinic had informed him of this lovely little library right across the street, and the boy had wandered over to have a bit of a look... and to get away from the activity and noise of strangers. It shamed him to admit it, so he wouldn't out loud, but he was still a bit shy of all these new people, and needed time to himself.
Books were always a good distraction.
He paged along the shelves, coming almost abruptly to a stack of the collective works of Sherlock Holmes. Starting at the second novel, he tugged it out and eagerly began to read. Ohhh, this wasn't out yet, where he came from.
As he read, single eye flicking back and forth over the text, his face relaxed into something younger than he acted, and he looked more like what he should have been. A young boy, absorbed in the adventure of a hero.

Rhode was silent when she stepped up behind Ciel, watching over his shoulder until she knew what he was reading. She couldn't see his face, but the relaxed set of his shoulders and his intent focus on the text said enough.
Without warning she wrapped her arms around his shoulders from behind, pressing her chest to his back and putting her head at level with his so she could better read over his shoulder.
"Earl~♪" the girl sing-songed into his ear, tone cheerful and friendly. "You're cute when you read. Is this your favorite author?"

Ciel's chest seized up and a spurt of panic went through him like a hot blade. He hadn't heard anything coming up behind him, how stupid. His breath burned in his chest, making his lungs feel like they were on fire, and he barely kept himself from trembling. Only the fact that she felt so much like Elizabeth kept him from throwing her to the ground on reflex alone. It would be a grave social misstep.
He forced himself to relax, but his words still came out a little wheezy and breathless, anger and indignation coloring over the panic at being grabbed.
"Let go of me at once," he demanded, snapping the book shut, turning his head just barely to glare at her out of one blue eye.
Rhode noticed it, and kept her hold tight on Ciel. The panic and the tension made her so very curious. What was he afraid of? Most people would be understandably jumpy at being suddenly hugged, but that reaction was a bit more than normal.
And of course she ignored his demand, reaching forward to pluck the book from his hands and turn it so she could see the cover.
Nelliel hadn't been to the library since she arrived in the odd world. She wasn't half surprised - her child-self couldn't read, let alone want too - but it was about time to fix that.
So rugged up in the remains of her cloth "coat" and something one could only hope was meant to be a scarf, she found herself trying to decide between a child's book and several different types of fiction. SHe wasn't entirely sure why.
