Here is a glimpse of the fruits of our labours this long-weekend, well, mainly Graig's labours, as he was the one who put this monstrosity together. My husband is awesome :)
Currently, those are all my books and graphic novels living there, the empty spaces are for Graig's graphic novels and massive DVD collection, which was packed up last night.
I'm really, really happy with this though, despite the overall bulk of these shelves, the way we've rearranged the living room actually feels as though the room has opened up more and, despite the super hero statues and shrine to Steve Yzerman (those would be the hockey figures you can see), the place just feels more grown up. Which is hilarious :)
We also put together the new dining room chairs, which I love. They're high backed, padded and covered in a nice blue upholstery (which will hide Jet's spills quite nicely until I can wash the slip covers). I was pretty much at my wits end with my old dining room chairs (my dining room suite having belonged to my great-grandmother) as they were old and falling apart and I'd repaired them countless times, but basically, I couldn't afford to have the work done on them that they need done, so it was time to buy new chairs. I currently only have four, but hopefully, within the next few months, I'll get a couple more and have the full compliment of six chairs again.
The bedroom was also rearranged to fit the new wardrobe and Graig's bed (which is now my bed too, hee) and also, despite the addition of a large piece of furniture, also feels like there is more room. Graig did a great job planning it all out.
The basement, which I admit I had woefully neglected since my brother moved in last year and deposited all his junk in there, was also cleaned up. Much useless stuff was turfed, others collected for donation to Goodwill, and the rest gathered for the inevitable yard sale. My brother even went through his boxes to see if he could lose some useless stuff and eliminated more clutter.
Overall, the place looks great and the slow process of moving all Graig's belongings in is going to go very smoothly as there are now places for all his stuff to live. The house is definitely feeling like 'ours' now and I love that.
Coming soon, a list of graphic novels and movies we have doubles of for my friends to call dibs on and fight over ;)
