[Chapter 1] [Chapter 2] [Chapter3] [Chapter 4] [Chapter 5][Chapter 6] [Chapter 7] [Chapter 8] [Chapter 9] [Chapter 10] Chapter 11:
Missing You
“You have 10 unheard messages. Press ONE to hear each recording or for more options-“
Jaejoong pressed number one on his phone and pressed his cellphone to his ear as he listened for the first voice mail message, while staring at the rain outside the window. He had to move the phone a few inches from his ear as he heard Junsu yelling in excitement that his team won the game, and the four other voice mails were from Junsu as well, who was keeping him updated from his soccer game's beginning and to the end of the game. Finally, Junsu said goodbye in order to pass the news to Changmin and Yoochun, and his brother, Junho.
Yoochun left the three other voicemail messages, telling him that he reached his family’s home and after a talking about the sight of the town, he called back a couple of times to demand why he wasn’t answering his phone. The final three messages came from Changmin who was talking in the same tone as Junsu, telling him the sights of the college buildings and what each college was offering. Jaejoong smiled and shook his head, his friends were such dorks, but he couldn’t help but love them all.
He decided to save some of their messages, so when they were far away from each other, at least he could always go back on his phone and hear their voices. He called Junsu first, but after a couple of rings, he was transferred to Junsu’s voicemail.
“Hey, Junsu-ah! It’s Jaejoong! Congratulations on your team for winning the first game, I knew you guys could do it. Besides Junsu-ah, they have you and you make a cool captain! FIGHTING! Watch for your health, being in the rain too long can get you sick! Take care and kick butt, Junsu-ah!”
Jaejoong decided to call his dongsang, Changmin. He scrolled down and clicked “My Changmin” and it dialed. The phone continued ringing, but it lead him straight to Changmin’s voicemail.
“Changmin-ah! I’m glad you love the colleges, I’m sure wherever you apply too, they’ll gladly accept you! How’s the food there? Are you eating well? Don’t eat too much or you’ll get a stomach, okay? When you come back, I’ll have a meal waiting for you! I know it’s raining like crazy out there, so make sure you have an umbrella with you at all times and a raincoat! Take care, Changmin-ah!”
Jaejoong had one more person to call, he strolled down to “My Yoochun” and dialed. It began to ring. Hopefully, it’ll lead him straight to Yoochun’s voicemail so that he wouldn’t have to hear Yoochun’s scoldings’ on why he didn’t answer his phone, he could just imagine the surprised look on Yoochun’s face if he finds out that he was staying with Yunho for the whole weekend.
One more ring and it’s voice----
"Jaejoong-hyung!!!!” Yoochun exclaimed loudly that he had to move his phone a few inches from his ear before bringing it back again.
“Er..hey, Yoochun-ah, what’s up?” Jaejoong said, keeping his voice in control and being careful not to spill anything.
“What’s up?! Hyung, you haven’t picked up your phone in days---“ Yoochun began to explain, but Jaejoong interrupted him.
“1 day and seven hours, Yoochun-ah. I’m sorry, Yoochun-ah, but I left my phone on the whole day without charging it, so of course, I couldn’t answer my phone.” Jaejoong lied.
“Oh…for a second there, I thought you were mad at me, Hyung, I mean, I didn’t mean to shred your picture of Yunho--anyways glad you're not mad!” Yoochun said, sounding relieved.
“Of course, I’m not mad at you, Yoochun-ah. It's just one picture...wait, which picture?” Jaejoong asked curiously and somewhat squeezed his phone tightly in his hand.
“You know that one picture where Yunho was somewhat shirtless and was smiling at the camera during the ----“ (Yoochun)
“SM TOWN CONCERT? IS THAT THE PICTURE? Yoochun-ah….why would you….---“ (Jaejoong)
“Well, I-you know how I get frustrated when I’m writing a new song and if I’m not satisfied with it, I just crumble it and throw it in the trash, and sometimes I use the paper shredder so that my work wouldn’t be copied by weirdos looking for things in the trash. But I didn’t do it on purpose, Hyung, it was an accident. I didn’t know I wrote on Yunho’s picture until…errr…I saw shreds of it. “ Yoochun gulped, sounding nervous and a bit worried.
Jaejoong wasn’t sure if he should be feeling angry or the fact that he didn’t care anymore. Sure, it was one of his favorite pictures of Yunho and so what if it was the only photo he brought with him from home? But then again, he was staying with Yunho, the actual breathing and more-handsome-than-what-those-magazines-credit-him-for was here-well actually he wasn’t here, here, since he went to the SM building to do some paperwork. But who cares? He was going to see him from then on.
“Hyung, are you still there? Look I promise to ..um..not force you to sing any of my new songs anymore..hyung?” Yoochun asked, trying to negotiate with him.
“No, it’s okay, Yoochun, besides that was just one of the hundreds of pictures of I have of Yunho. It’s cool, and I wouldn’t mind singing your new songs, they’re beautiful, Yoochun-ah and deserve to be expressed outloud than just on plain paper.” Jaejoong said cheerfully, as he decided to change the topic of the conversation.
“So how’s your mom, and Ricky? Did you tell them that I said Hello?” Jaejoong asked, as he looked out the window from Yunho’s room and it was still raining pretty hard. He hoped everyone was inside, and not playing in the cold, hard rain.
“Oh, yeah! They were happy to see me, and my mom says that you should come visit next time, she said that she hasn’t seen you in weeks and Ricky is now working! So that eases my worries, since Mom isn’t the only one working anymore.” Yoochun said happily as Jaejoong chuckled and continued to listen to Yoochun talk about Ricky’s new job and his new dog, and errands he does for his mom.
“Sorry, hyung, am I boring you?”
“Not at all, it’s great that you’re with your family and I promise I’ll come with you next time.” Jaejoong replied.
“Thanks, Hyung, by the way, I heard from Changmin-ah and Junsu-ah about them staying out of Seoul for their own activities to attend too, which leaves me to ask you this again. Are you sure you’re okay being there by yourself, go shop or something, Hyung, I can come home early---“(Yoochun)
“WHOA! Slow down, Yoochun-ah! I’m fine, besides I have my cooking to keep me company, just focus your time and energy with your family. I’m okay, and I’m not feeling lonely at all. REALLY.” Jaejoong said, emphasizing the word “REALLY”, because in his mind he could really imagine Yoochun arriving at their house in the middle of night and then freaking out that he wasn’t there ( without any knowledge that he was staying at Yunho’s huge apartment) and then wait, and then after a few hours waiting, call the police and then report him missing.
“Oh…okay, that’s great, Hyung, so have you heard from your idol, lately?” Yoochun asked, sounding a bit relieved and curious at the same time.
“Um..not really.” Jaejoong lied, as those lying words spilled out from his mouth.
“That’s weird, Hyung, unless……….” Yoochun said and paused.
“Huh? Unless, what, Yoochun-ah?” Jaejoong asked, biting his lip, hoping that Yoochun wouldn’t suspect anything.
“Unless, you’re still shy! Come on, hyung, we saw you and Yunho-ah making gooey eyes at each other when Junsu-ah, Changmin-ah and I came back from buying fast food.” Yoochun concluded, as he laughed.
“What? You guys are so sneaky!! We were not making gooey eyes at each other! Hey, Yoochun-ah, stop laughing!” Jaejoong exclaimed as he bit his lip and blushed. He couldn’t believe it, they saw Yunho and him together. No way! What gooey eyes?! Yunho was just being nice because he was crying, grrr…Yoochun-ah, wait until I put an extra hot chili sauce on your seafood dish!
“Hahahaha! Jaejoong-hyung, don’t get mad, I just hope you and Yunho-ah can become friends now, besides it was your dream to meet him and be his friend right?” Yoochun said, calming down a bit from his outburst of laughter.
“I-I’m not mad, Yoochun-ah. But don’t worry, Yunho-ah and I are great friends now.” Jaejoong said softly as he remembered eating with Yunho hours ago before he was called to SM for some work to finish.
“That’s awesome, Hyung, but I have to go right now. I’ll call you back soon, later, hyung!”Yoochun said, ending the call, and Jaejoong turned off his phone again and looked out the window.
He wondered what Yunho was up too right now, as Jaejoong went down downstairs and decided to go and cook dinner, at least the cooking will take his mind of Yunho for a while and maybe the sinking feeling of missing him would go away as well.
*************************************************************************************
Yunho kept glancing at the clock after each photo shoot.
Who knew taking pictures would take this long? His manager told him specially that it was only going to be a couple of shots, but it ended up being much more than that.
He wiped the powder stuff on his face as he changed into his jogging clothes and placed his hat on his head, and of course, his black shades. He thanked the makeup artists and stylists, clothing people and then he walked out and thanked the people who photographed him, before stepping out the door.
He placed his Ipod earphones on both of ears as he turned the music on, he ran down the stairs instead of taking the elevator and went out the door, where his car was waiting for him. His manager stayed behind for another meeting, and Yunho went inside and closed the door behind him.
The driver began to drive, as Yunho grabbed his phone from his back pocket and turned it on. There was a small sound of “Dings” and looked at his phone, he had so many text messages. He hoped that they weren’t all from his manager.
"Yunho-ah, how’s work?^^” (first text) It was send a few seconds when he left the house.
“You must be very busy, fighting! ^O^” (second text) It was send a few minutes when he stepped in SM entertainment.
“Don’t worry, regardless of how long the work is, I’m sure you’ll do your best, Yunho-ah!” (third text) It was send hours later when he was in the elevator, waiting until it hit the tenth floor, for his photo shoots.
Yunho continued scrolling down and reading the messages, there had to be at least thirty texts send to him and all from---
“I’ll be here waiting for you, Yunho. ”(last text)
Jaejoong.
They were two hours from his apartment and it was raining like crazy outside. Geez, Jaejoong was alone by himself at his house for at least five to six hours, damn, how could he have forgotten him? He looked out the window, it was still raining hard. What if Jaejoong went out and caught another fever? And ended up collapsing somewhere?! While he was watching the time pass by, he should’ve at least called or checked on Jaejoong during the ten minute breaks that he had, instead of going straight to work.
Suddenly the car stopped.
“Hyung, what’s wrong? Why’d you stop the car?” Yunho asked, as he frantically looked at the time and kept thinking of all these bad things that could possibly be happening to Jaejoong right now.
“I’m sorry, Yunho-shii, but unfortunately there’s traffic right now. But don’t worry, I’m sure it’ll pass by quickly.” His driver said to him as he moved the car slowly in the traffic.
No he had to go home right now. Shit, whatever it is, he had to go home now. Someone was waiting for him, someone important, and time was passing quickly.
He opened the door and his driver turned around quickly.
“Yunho-shii, what are you---“
“Hyung, how far is it from my house from here?” Yunho asked him.
“Just an hour or so, sir, but I can assure you that we’ll get there in thirty minutes-“ Yunho interrupted him again, and this time, turning on his phone and scrolling down to Jaejoong’s number.
“I’m going to run there, don’t tell, Manager-hyung, about this. Thanks, Hyung.” Yunho said as he stepped out of the car and slammed the door behind him. He ran off the street and went running into the same direction to his house that he’s been driven too so many times.
It was raining hard, as the rain continued to pour down on him. His hair now splayed wetly on his face as he brushed it off, and continued running. He dialed Jaejoong’s number, he kept running and almost ended up crashing into someone in the bike and luckily he didn’t crash against any cars.
He kept his phone in his hand and by his ear, as he waited patiently for Jaejoong’s voice.
Finally…
“Hi, it’s Jaejoong. I’m sorry, but I’m unable at the moment, so please leave your name and number, and I promise to call you back when I get it. Thank you!”
Yunho stopped when the lights to cross the sidewalk turned red. He decided to dial Jaejoong’s number a couple of more times, but he kept getting Jaejoong’s voicemail.
Geez, his clothes were already soaking wet, but he had other important things to worry about. The light finally turned green and the crosswalk sign blinked, Yunho sprinted.
“I’ll be waiting for you, Yunho.”
The strange pang in his chest came back again, only this time, it was much stronger. It was weird that no matter how hard it was raining, he could only hear that pang, and then in his mind, he thought of Jaejoong.
After almost falling flat on his face, bumping randomly into strangers and running like a maniac in the busy streets of Seoul, he finally reached the black gates of his apartment and pressed the button to his intercom.
“Jaejoong? JAE?!” Yunho yelled on top of his lungs as his hands tightened on the bars of the gates.
He was going to go insane if Jaejoong didn’t answer.
Then the gates began to open, he saw Jaejoong peeking from the window and then disappeared from the view. Yunho rushed into the gates as the gates behind him securely locked themselves.
He stepped into the apartment and Jaejoong opened the door, with a smile on his face, and then when he looked at him carefully this time, Jaejoong frowned and pulled him in.
“Yunho-ah, did you run here? Yunho-ah?” Jaejoong asked him, with a worried look of concern on his face as he took off Yunho’s sweater (that Yunho lend him the night before) and began to dry his hair for him and pulling of Yunho’s wet jacket and hat.
“Jaejoong...” Yunho said softly as Jaejoong continuously dried his hair with this concern look on his face and bit his lip in fear that Yunho would get sick.
Without a word, Yunho wrapped his arms around Jaejoong’s waist and pulling Jaejoong’s soft frame against him. Jaejoong dropped Yunho’s now drenched sweater on the floor.
“I..I’m home. “ Yunho whispered softly as he looked at Jaejoong’s surprised expression before fainting.
*************************************************************************************
After 20 minutes of piggy- backing Yunho upstairs to the bathroom and changing his clothes and finally piggy backing him to his bed, Jaejoong watched him sleep for a few seconds after going back downstairs and throwing Yunho’s wet clothes in the laundry basket.
When Yunho was working at SM entertainment, he thought of ways to forget him for a while. Being in his apartment all day wasn’t going to make it easy, so before cooking, he decided to go out. He went out to the grocery store, but first he looked out to see if there were any signs of fans waiting by the gates or media people lurking somewhere. Thankfully, no one was there.
He borrowed a one of Yunho’s jackets and an umbrella, and walked outside, taking the bus and walking to the grocery store. As he strolled around the store for ingredients, he saw posters of Yunho, advertising soft drinks or even one of those MILK posters. He shook his head and went to grab some vegetables, then he passed by the meat section. He was looking at the fishes, and clams, when one of the workers asked him if he wanted to buy sausages, and he remembered Yunho mentioning that he loved eating sausages, especially in soup. Jaejoong gave up and bought it, and he bought more ingredients for kimchi, since Yunho loved the kimchi soup that he made for him last time.
He decided to text Yunho a couple of times, but he received no replies. He wondered if Yunho didn’t answer his phone because he was busy or was getting irritated that Jaejoong kept sending him text messages and filling up his inbox, when other important people were trying to contact him.
He didn’t want to annoy Yunho with his texts, but he couldn’t help but miss him.
Jaejoong placed the kimchi soup and the sausage soup in the refrigerator and checked to see if there were any traces of sauce on the floorboards or on the kitchen counter. He turned off the lights, and turned on the porch light. He walked upstairs and entered the room quietly, being careful not to wake up Yunho.
He switched on the light and Yunho was sleeping peacefully on his pillow. Jaejoong felt happy that Yunho was back, but what he didn’t understand was why he was soaking wet. He was pretty sure that Yunho had a personal driver who drove him back and forth from his apartment to SM, to wherever.
Jaejoong got up and pulled the curtains together and sat beside Yunho’s sleeping form and wondered if Yunho was always so…alone. Jaejoong bit his lip and frowned, he knew that Yunho was a famous celebrity, and probably had tons of celebrity friends and hundreds of fans, so why would he be lonely?
But the thing that bothered Jaejoong was the sadness that he noticed in Yunho’s eyes whenever he mentioned something about his family or maybe it was just him? He didn’t mean to go snooping around the house, but what he noticed was that there weren’t any pictures of his family or friends, in fact, there weren’t any pictures around.
Jaejoong looked at Yunho again, and watched at Yunho’s chest went slowly up and down. Jaejoong brushed Yunho’s hair off his face and gently traced the scar by his cheek.
“Jae…?” Yunho whispered, and Jaejoong moved his hand quickly away from his face.
“Yunho-ah? What’s wrong?” Jaejoong asked, staring down at Yunho, as Yunho moved his hand and was searching for something.
“Thirsty, Yunho-ah? I’ll go get you some water-“ As Jaejoong got up and was about to rush downstairs, but Yunho grabbed his wrist, pulling him back beside him again.
“Don’t leave..okay?” Yunho whispered as he turned towards Jaejoong’s direction and gave him a sleepy smile, before dozing off to sleep again. His hand loosened its grasp lightly on Jaejoong’s wrist, but remained there.
Jaejoong wasn't sure how to respond but seeing how vulnerable and sick Yunho was at that moment, he felt that he had to stay with him and felt somewhat attached to him. All he knew was that at that moment, Jaejoong promised himself that regardless of what happens he would never leave Yunho’s side. If Yunho was hurting, Jaejoong wanted to be there and console him and maybe give him a big hug. If Yunho was sick, Jaejoong would watch over until he gets better. Maybe, Jaejoong believed, Yunho needed him more than he thought.
Jaejoong got up and switch the lights off, as he went back to the bed. The lights turned off, it was dark, but Jaejoong wasn’t afraid. The rain continued to pour hard against the window and the only thing Jaejoong could hear was Yunho’s soft breathing.
Jaejoong moved a few inches away from Yunho (just to give him some space), but he left Yunho’s hand on his wrist. After staring at Yunho for a couple of minutes, he closed his eyes and dreamed.
Without knowing, Yunho’s hand was no longer holding onto Jaejoong’s wrist, but somehow his hand managed to find Jaejoong’s hand…and held on tightly.
Chapter 12A
