Chapter 12 Part A:

Trip to Gwangji

Yunho found himself in a suit again, and this time that idea came from Jaejoong.

Yunho looked at himself in bathroom mirror, he looked alright, except for the tie that he was still holding onto, and was itching to get a scissor, cut it into tiny pieces, and then maybe get a match and lit it on fire.

If there was one thing that he hated about wearing about suits, it’d have to do with putting on a tie. It was bad enough that every single time he tried putting the tie on, he almost choked himself with each failed attempt of trying to put it on.

He sighed  and looked at his Rolex watch, it was seven in the morning, and he had an hour left before going to the airport.

Why was he doing this again?

Because he had a big mouth, and somehow always ended up telling almost everything about himself to Jaejoong. Or maybe it was the delicious breakfast that Jaejoong cooked, that even his stomach couldn't say no to Jaejoong either.

*************** That early morning ***********************

“Your dad’s birthday is today?!” Jaejoong exclaimed with a surprised expression on his face, as he helped himself to his kimchi stew, and Yunho swallowed his portion of rice and began to explain.

“Yeah, I think he’s turning fifty five or somewhere around the fifty mark.” Yunho said, as he continued to chow down on his rice and kimchi. Jaejoong paused and placed his chopsticks down on his bowl, and then looked at Yunho.

“I hope you don’t me asking, Yunho-ah, but do you have a present for him?” Jaejoong asked, staring at Yunho with curious eyes.

Yunho finished chewing the chopped pieces of sausages on his plate and then answered. He felt somewhat embarrassed with Jaejoong looking at him like that, like he was waiting for his great idea.

“Well, I'm planning to send him a birthday card.” Yunho replied, feeling the heat of Jaejoong’s gaze as he continued to eat the rest of the rice on his bowl.

“How about you try something new this year, Yunho-ah?” Jaejoong asked him as Yunho got up quickly to the sink to wash his dishes. For some reason, Yunho felt uneasy, just what was Jaejoong up to?

To his surprise, Jaejoong was by his side, with the dishes from their finished breakfast and placed them down by the empty part of the sink. Yunho gave Jaejoong an extra sponge, as Jaejoong thanked him and Yunho was patiently waiting for Jaejoong’s secret idea.

“I’m thinking that we throw party-Yunho’s eyes widened and almost dropped a plate-ok, well a small surprise party, with family and friends, you can do the invites and I’ll help out with the cooking.” Jaejoong offered as he bit his lip and looked at Yunho.

It was bad enough that he hadn’t spoken nor contacted his family in a few years, but a party? Like a party could make up for those few years of no communication and the idea of bringing Jaejoong to his family problems wasn’t a great idea either.

“That’s nice of you, Jae, but my family doesn’t live in Seoul, they live in another town, far..far from here.” Yunho said and continued,” Besides a birthday card seems a lot easier and I'll even let you sign it, Jae.”

“A birthday card sounds great, Yunho-ah..” Jaejoong said slowly as he turned on the water and washed the soap away from plates. Yunho sighed and stared at Jaejoong for moment, for some reason, Jaejoong was thinking again, the water was left running, plates were finally washed, and bubbles began to form in the sink.

Yunho sighed and gently tugged a few strands of Jaejoong’s long hair, and Jaejoong turned around and gave him a confused look.

“Jae, what’s on your mind?” Yunho asked him, after blowing a soap bubble away from the tip of Jaejoong’s nose.

Jaejoong turned a little pink and suddenly turned off the water and tugged on Yunho’s sweat shirt. Jaejoong was now in front of him, biting his lip and was tugging his sweat shirt with the other hand, but had his head down.

Yunho was worried again, did he get another fever that he was unaware about again?

You okay, Jae?” Yunho asked, as he placed his hand on Jaejoong’s forehead, it felt fine to him, but Jaejoong still wouldn’t look at him, and continued biting his lip.

“Yunho-ah, how about we visit your family? We have a day left before trainee day, and you have no work today at SM, so how about we take a trip and visit your family?” Jaejoong asked finally a few seconds after Yunho was feeling concerned for him.

Yunho sighed and wondered if he should tell the truth to Jaejoong, but by looking at Jaejoong’s happy smile, he wasn’t sure if he could. To his surprise, Jaejoong was no longer tugging on his sweat shirt, but this time, tugging on his hand.

“Jae, I---“ Yunho wanted to make up another excuse, but found himself looking at Jaejoong’s sad eyes and that..weird puppy expression on his face. Oh shit.

“I really would love to meet your family, Yunho, but I guess if you want to just send a birthday card instead, then that’s okay too.” Jaejoong said sadly, as he looked down on at the kitchen floor, not meeting Yunho’s eyes.

Yunho sighed, would it really kill him to just see his family once more? It was just one argument that went wrong with his dad and him, besides at least he still had his mom and his little sister, Jihye. It has been a while since he’s seen his family, and brought a friend to visit with.

He looked at Jaejoong, Jaejoong was still biting his lip, and his hand was still on Yunho’s sweatshirt. Well at least, he won’t be facing his family alone, besides it’s just one day, what could go wrong?

Yunho thought for a moment and then sighed loudly, causing Jaejoong to look up at him with curious eyes.

“Okay, let’s go.” Yunho said, and without a word, Jaejoong wrapped his small arms around his waist. Yunho messed with Jaejoong’s long hair again and Jaejoong just smiled at him.

“I’ll go pack, Yunho-ah!” Jaejoong said excitingly and smiled at Yunho, before running upstairs. Yunho shook his head and scratched his head over  what just happened. He took out his cell phone from his back pocket of his jogging pants and dialed the airline company.

*************************************************************************************

And now here he was staring at the mirror, and holding a stupid tie in one hand.

“Yunho-ah, are you done?” Jaejoong asked, coming into the bathroom. Yunho turned around to face Jaejoong and suddenly the tie slipped from his hand. Jaejoong walked in, somehow looking more of a celebrity than he did. He had black jeans, matching boots, wearing soft gray sweater and a black jacket over it. Then he recognized the skull beanie (concealing his long hair) and on his shoulder was his luggage carrier.

“Jae, you wear glasses?” Yunho asked, as he bends over to pick up his tie on the floor. To his surprise, Jaejoong attempted to pick it up as well, and their hands touched at the same time, but they pulled away quickly.

“Er, um, yeah. The contact lenses are irritating my eyes a bit.” Jaejoong said, clearing his throat, as he gave the tie back to Yunho. Yunho smiled awkwardly and attempted to put the tie on again, but Jaejoong grabbed it from his hands before he could choke himself again.

“I got it, Yunho-ah.” Jaejoong said with a smile, as Yunho sighed and gave the tie to Jaejoong. Jaejoong reached over and wrapped the tie carefully underneath the shirt’s collar. Yunho stared at Jaejoong in amazement as he watched Jaejoong fix the tie, and miraculously wasn’t even close to choking him with it. For some reason, he felt that strange pang in his chest again, and wondered why it always happened whenever Jaejoong was near him.

“Yunho-ah, what’s wrong?” Jaejoong asked in a concern tone, that Yunho snapped out of it. He placed his hand on top of Jaejoong’s beanie and smiled at him.

“Nothing, I’m just happy to go on this trip with you, Jae, now if we don’t leave now, we’ll miss our plane.” Yunho said as Jaejoong’s concerned expression was suddenly replaced with a happy one.

“Kay, Yunho-ah, let’s go.” Jaejoong said excitingly, while pulling on Yunho’s wrist to follow him. Yunho chuckled to himself as he allowed himself to be dragged downstairs with Jaejoong, and outside the door.

He locked it, and looked at the weather. It was no longer raining, but instead, it was bright and sunny…no longer cold, but warm. Jaejoong tugged him once more, this time, past the gates and into the awaiting taxi.

He looked at Jaejoong, who was happily chatting about what to do with the party and so forth when they got there, and the only thing that Yunho was thinking about in his mind was the argument that he had with his dad. Then he looked back at Jaejoong, who was describing something to do with balloons, and Yunho nodded along, and watched as Jaejoong’s eyes continued to be filled with excitement.

Maybe there was hope for him after all, Yunho thought, as he closed his eyes and leaned against Jaejoong's shoulder.

*************************************************************************************

“Wine, sir?” The flight stewardess asked Jaejoong, as she held out a glass of wine in front of him. It looked tempting, but he wasn’t sure it was free or not. He love drinking soju at home, but this alcoholic beverage looked like one of those expensive bottles in the stores, locked in one of those glass cabinets.

And it looked too pricey to drink, he hardly had any money on him, and didn’t like the idea of Yunho paying for him, it’s bad enough that he even paid for his first-class ticket, the least he could do is stay cool and not spend on anything.

“No, thank you.” Jaejoong said politely as the stewardess nodded and bowed, and then smiled widely at someone.

“Yunho-sshi, would you like glass of wine?” She asked in a much nicer tone and in a louder voice. Then all of the chatting stopped, even the other rich people stopped talking about their stocks and looked at the tall, handsome guy in a black suit.

“No, thank you, but two cans of Pepsi would do..” Yunho said with a smile, as the stewardess wasted no time, and went into her cart to grab some soda. Jaejoong watched as the stewardess purposely brushed her fingers against Yunho’s hands while giving the sodas. For some reason, Jaejoong felt like breaking those fingers.

“Thanks.” Yunho said, and moved to the side, to grab the seat beside Jaejoong, and smiled at him when he saw him.

“Thirsty, Jae?” Yunho asked, while drinking his soda, and offered the other can of soda in his other hand. Jaejoong took it without any hesitation and watched as some of the stewardesses hiding by the food area, kept stealing glances at Yunho.

“So how long will it take for us to be there, Yunho-ah?” Jaejoong asked, getting irritated with the stewardesses who were talking a bit too LOUD.

“Two hours, more. What’s wrong? You feeling nervous, Jae?” Yunho asked, placing his can of soda by his cup holder and looking at Jaejoong.

“No, I’m just excited, that’s all.” Jaejoong said, still eying the stewardess who were now reapplying makeup and pretended to look elsewhere.

“Ha ha, of course,” Yunho laughed and then he looked serious again, and that frown of his came back again,” Another thing, I’m sorry about what happened at the airport, my fans can get a little too crazy sometimes."

A little too crazy? They were -well Yunho, for the most part -were about to get mauled by tons of fan girls ( squealing, screaming and many crying) when they noticed Yunho, looking handsome in his suit, but Yunho played it cool and waved at them. But the waving made things worse, as the fans took that as an okay sign to surround them.

Thank god, the security guards came, otherwise, they would’ve been-Yunho- would’ve ended up being kidnapped by his fans. The security didn’t seem mind him and paid more attention to protecting Yunho, that he was almost trampled by those fans until Yunho grabbed him before he was dragged away and held him securely in the front of him when they finally passed the gates.

“It’s okay, Yunho-ah, as long as nobody got hurt.” Jaejoong joked, and Yunho laughed once more, and of course, the stewardess were no longer giggling and looking at him, wondering if he was a celebrity too (which thank god, he wasn’t).

Yunho put his Ipod earphones on and listened to his music, while Jaejoong stared at the circular window by his side, and watched the clouds pass by, and looked down at the tiny squares of houses in lines, and minutes’ later, found himself feeling sleepy.

He shut the window shutter down and pulled his pillow right behind his head and closed his eyes, another hour left. He couldn’t seem to find a perfect position as well, and kept moving around, and then felt something on his shoulder.

He opened his eyes and pushed his glasses up as well. To his surprise, Yunho fell asleep as well and was now leaning against his shoulder. He could smell Yunho’s cologne and spiked up hair tickled his chin. Jaejoong yawned softly and slowly picked up Yunho’s head gently from his shoulder and replaced it with a pillow, that way, Yunho’s neck wouldn’t ache when he wakes up. He placed his blanket over Yunho, that way he wouldn’t get cold.

Jaejoong couldn’t sleep and instead, was curious with what kind of music Yunho was listening to too. Maybe he was listening to a slow R&B song or an upbeat rap song? Jaejoong slowly grabbed the earphones and Ipod, and placed the earphones in his ears.

Jaejoong almost dropped Yunho’s Ipod.

“Can I love You?” by Yurisangja was playing.

He figured Yunho would’ve forgotten about it, since it was a week ago. He touched his cheeks, they were feeling a bit too warm again, luckily Yunho was still asleep, or he would’ve seen Jaejoong’s pink cheeks again.

It was the same song that he fell in love with when he saw one of his older sisters and her new husband dance to it on their beloved wedding day. It was the song that he decided to sing for the SM auditions after losing a bet against Changmin. And…it was also the first song he ever sang to Yunho.

Jaejoong bit his lip and stared out the window, and smiled widely till his face began to hurt.

************************************************************************************

“Great idea, Jae, and thanks.” Yunho said after climbing inside the cab behind Jaejoong, and placing his luggage carrier by his side.

“No problem, Yunho-ah, happy to help.” Jaejoong said, giving him another smile as he stared out the window, and strangely continued smiling.

Well, it wasn’t that weird, since Jaejoong was talking and smiling the whole time about visiting his family, and about a party. Jaejoong came up with an idea to avoid the chaos from fans by changing his clothes into his normal wear of clothes. To his surprise, he and Jaejoong walked out of the airport just fine and without security guards.

Jaejoong talked excitingly about the view through the window, as Yunho took out his phone and automatically dialed the phone number to the house. Then he hanged up after the first ring. Would he be the only one thrilled to see them or would they turn him away like he did to them when he left a few years ago. The question that bothered him the most was would he still have a family to go back to?

Then he looked at Jaejoong, and thought about how lucky he was. He had a huge family that supported him in his dream and he had a place he could always go back to if he wanted to. He wasn’t alone either, he had friends, like Yoochun, Changmin and Junsu and even more. But that completely different for Yunho, he had the opposite of Jaejoong had, and envied him for a while, and then realized that the only difference between him and Jaejoong was that Jaejoong’s heart was truly bigger than his.

“What’s your family like, Yunho-ah?” Jaejoong asked Yunho, and was no longer staring out the window, but giving him a curious expression on his face.

“Well, my mom stays at home, my dad is a lawyer and my little sister, Jihye, is a middle school student.” Yunho said quickly, and was met by Jaejoong’s curious expression yet again.

“My parents were both student body presidents for each of their grades and competed on everything with one another, from grades, through school festivals, clubs, you name it.” Yunho said, with a smile and continued. “Then they were no longer competing, according to my mom, they fell in love, got married, then they had me, and then few years later, Jihye.”

Jaejoong laughed and smiled about the story about his parents, but by the silence, Yunho had a feeling that Jaejoong wanted to know more, so he continued.

“My mom loves to cook, and when she does, she always sings and sometimes does a little dancing every now and then. Most of the time, when I come home from school, I always see her cooking or either singing or dancing in the kitchen. But of course, I didn’t waste time just watching her, I danced and sang along with her, but it was the cooking part that I never could achieve.” Yunho said, smiling at the warm memory.

“She must’ve been a strong influence on you, Yunho-ah, you’re this amazing dancer now, and you have your mom to thank for that. She must be really proud of you, I’m sure of it.” Jaejoong said with a smile on his face.

It was true, part of the reason why he trained hard so hard to be a dancer and reach the entertainment world was because of his mom. He wasn’t doing it for himself, he was showing his mom the kind of love that he learned from watching her and maybe she was proud of him.

“Yeah, I think so too, Jae.” Yunho said then joked, “But I think Jihye has more of mom’s qualities than I do. I can’t cook at all without burning anything and well, everything actually.”

Jaejoong laughed and then Yunho laughed along with him. He was no longer feeling anxious or nervous, but instead he felt happy and a little homesick. But all in all, he felt better. A few minutes later, Yunho watched as Jaejoong stopped talking for while and dozed off. The driver made a sharp turn, which almost rammed Jaejoong’s face against the window; Yunho threw his arm around Jaejoong's shoulder before it could happen. The driver apologized and continued driving.

Yunho gently positioned Jaejoong so that Jaejoong was now leaning his head against his shoulder. Yunho took off his jacket and placed it over Jaejoong, now softly snoring. He reached for his Ipod in his pocket, turned it on, placed the earphones in his ears, and closed his eyes.

*************************************************************************************

“Thank you.” Jaejoong said to the cab driver as he paid him, this time with his own money.

The driver waved them off as he drove away, and Jaejoong turned around, and saw Yunho just standing there, with his sports bag over his shoulder, and staring at his own house.

Well, who wouldn’t? Most of the houses around the neighbor area were really nice. Two stories high, a well-trimmed lawn & garden, rows of trees planted by the sidewalks, the area looked much cleaner than at Seoul. It looked way better than Changmin’s house, for sure.

Yunho’s house was two stories high, white and a blue rooftop. One shiny Mercedes Benz was parked outside the garage, the garden was beautiful and exotic-looking (roses, tulips etc). There was even a small bird fountain in the middle of the green lawn.

However there were tall silver gates in front of the entrance to the house, which they were standing in front ofJaejoong looked at Yunho, but he couldn’t read the expression on his face, but his posture looked somewhat tensed..and maybe nervous?

Jaejoong touched Yunho’s hand and squeezed it gently, as Yunho stared at him.

"Let's do this together, okay, Yunho?"

Yunho took his hand from his grasp and messed with his hair, with a smile. "Okay."

They walked toward the gates and Yunho pressed the button, as they waited.

Together.
