Not guard cats

May 12, 2018 21:48

This morning I watched a spider come out from underneath Moose (*underneath!*), and saunter unconcernedly between the rest of the cats toward the door. No cat intervention or even interest. At all. WTF, guys?

*Rode Zolar in the pasture at a walk last night just for a little bit. He seemed a little tender on his feet-wouldn't stride out. Our ground is really hard, and he tends to be tender if I really even trot much. I think it was worse yesterday because they had their feet done in the morning. Also, he doesn't have shoes.

*Riding tonight was hot. Sort of conditioning sort of working on changes of direction and circles. In right lead canter when I went from straight to a circle, he tended to almost jump from straight to the curve at the last second. Seemed to be better if I overprepared.
Maybe the jump was him falling on his shoulder. hmm... I texted my trainer the info for Tuesday.

Oh, and I used the whip with the red ball of death. It really gives him a lot more energy, although it can tend to be frenetic when he gets upset**. (It's actually an endostick, which is a dressage whip with a red squishy ball at the end-, and I usually just hold it.)

*I did have a little crisis of confidence, wondering if I was making any improvement at all in general. Then I thought about how our extended trot had improved, so that helped some. And I also remembered that improvement and training isn't a smooth straight road up the mountain, it's got a lot of dips and switchbacks.

*Choir tomorrow. And I remembered to leave the 'advil' out on the feed table so I'll remember to give it to Rex tomorrow morning. Going to ride him tomorrow night, hopefully. :)

**usually because I want him to do something that he doesn't want to do. Or I won't let him do something he wants to do.
