Trial, week one

Sep 14, 2007 16:19

Our arrival in Niagara Falls was unremarkable. We went straight to the hotel--yes, an actual hotel. I guess the DA's office realized that we would need a place to meet and work on the trial as it was going on so they set us up at the local Residence Inn, which has a business center and we get suites with kitchenettes. Okay-so really, it's not half-bad. But it is NOT a vacation, by any means.

Voire dire was predictable but I think we managed to get a decent jury. Apparently they don't read the news up in Niagara County, or at least not news pertaining to New York City.

SUBJ: Trial

Jack,

All is well up here in Niagara Falls. Glad you're so concerned with us. You should try to make it out here for part of the trial, if you can.

I'm still trying to figure out why Melnick took this case. It's obvious why Riley Toth did--he's the public defender and Sean McCabe has no money for a lawyer. But Melnick is a different story. From what I've heard, she only takes cases that she thinks she can win, or that have to do with Constitutional legalities/civil rights/etc. This case centers around none of those things. In fact, the only defense Dallas Strickland has is a blustering he said/she said one. I have it on good authority from...an inside source... that she's been secretive about the case in general.

Do you think it's worth my time poking around in her affairs? Or maybe one of the DA's investigators could be put on it? Let me know.

Connie
