I heard about it because I am a diehard reader of Entertainment Weekly. They have a season preview in the fall, and there it was. Dom Monaghan and -- realize that I had just recently seen The English Patient and was thinking, my god, that man is gorgeous -- Naveen Andrews in one show. And one that was oddly similar to Lord of the Flies, one of my all time favorite books. I was skeptical at first. I had to tape the first few episodes and I watched them all at once. After that, I started rearranging my schedule.

First off, the filming is beautiful. I was initially put off by Locke and Jack, but I've grown to like them and I think all the characters are very well developed, or at least have the possibility to go far. The possibilities with the symbolism are too great for a lit junkie to pass up, and the Locke/Rousseau/Tabula Rasa bit? Too much for a history junkie to pass up.

I do, at some point, read nearly all the fanfiction that comes across my flist through communities and personal journals on lj. I discuss the show when I get an opportunity. I role-play in the fandom. And I attempt the fanfiction, but it never gets finished. *g* I really haven't been this invested in a story since ... honestly? Since I first read LotF.

Right now, all I really have to say about the show is that I hope to god it's going somewhere. If it starts with the circles and the aimless supernaturalness, I might cry. And sometimes I worry the way they introduce so many mysteries. I hope The Powers that Be don't get in over their heads.
