1880's Frippery - AKA The Black Widow, part two.

I opted for a separate skirt and bodice, that way I can mix and match pieces for future use should the opportunity present itself. I finally caved and bought a bodice pattern as I have never drafted anything like this and did not have the time to experiment. The skirt, however, I did draft myself and was very pleased with the result.

I don't think I have used this much lace and ribbon trim on anything. I still need to put more on. :0)

The fabrics are a black chenille for the skirt, and a really nifty shot satin for the bodice and overskirt. The satin looks black until the light hits it a certain way, and then it gleams a very dark red. The photos do not do it justice. I have enough of the chenille left over to make a jacket to pair with the skirt for less formal occasions.

Last minute bustled overskirt completed the outfit - I need to get a photo of it yet.

These two photos show bodice before I blinged it up. This is how it looked after:

With the addition of the overskirt, it was ready enough to wear for Halloween. I need to add details and layers to the skirt as it is much too plain , and a hat or fascinator with spiders and webbing. I plan on having that done before my excursion to the Cemetery and the Steam museum this spring. :0)
