1880's Frippery - AKA The Black Widow

I just realized I have not updated my foray into Victorian floof. The gown was finished enough I was able to wear it for Halloween, much to the bemusement of the neighbours as we handed out candy.

I still need to add some layers and details, but I am extremely happy with how the whole thing turned out. Once the weather is back into green, a friend and I are going to wander down to the Cemetery and take advantage of the period 1800's background for photos. :0)

Firstly, the bustled petticoat was a huge success. Black cotton fabric, tulle, lace and ribbon. I improvised a pattern from a museum layout, and it worked very well. I guestimated the proportions just right, I could sit comfortably and it boosted the back of the skirt perfectly.

Only thing I would change for future is to make the bottom circumference just a touch wider.
