very busy week

I have had a very busy week this week. I don't remember much of what happened at CRC on Monday except that I gave tennis balls to the owls. I picked those up out of the two display cages that got them today.

Today's cleaning was relatively uneventful too, but the Barred Owls were noisy with me actually in the cage. That's a first.

My big event for this week was actually on Wednesday and yesterday. Mom and I went to a Chick-Fil-A grand opening at Mt. Airy, NC. She's been to several, but that one was my first. We left at 4 am on Wednesday for the 6 am raffle for the 100 slots and 10 alternate slots. My aunt and two of my cousins also went, and out of the five of us, three of us got slots. My mom got a slot, and I was her guest. My aunt and one of my cousins got slots too. Then after all the slot people were signed in, my mom, aunt, and cousin put up our tents while my other cousin and I signed in. I managed to get only one book read out of the three I brought because watching the games was more fun. I did the water balloon toss with a lady I met, and there was also the water balloon launch that I didn't get to do because I couldn't find anyone to do it with. I also did the scavenger hunt with my mom, but I don't think either of us are going to do it again. She's getting too old to run that fast, and I'm too out of shape to run that fast.

The lady I did the water balloon toss with volunteers at a zoo. I had fun talking with her at lunch.

In the afternoon there were relays, but I didn't get to do them so I just watched. People had to carry tennis balls in their elbows, and pass them off by locking their elbow around the tennis ball while the other person still had it. Then, in the second race, they had to carry the ball between their knees, but they had to go back and start over if they dropped it. In the third race they had to run backwards with the ball between their knees.

Then there was the cookie contest where you put an Oreo on your forehead and had to use just your facial muscles to get it to your mouth. Mine fell right on the ground before I could even move it, but that doesn't matter because I knew I would be bad at that game. I ate it anyway. Watching other people do it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. The guy that won literally had the Oreo crawling down his face. He did it so fast. The lady that came in second did it really slow, but watching her try to get it with her tongue and flip it into her mouth was really funny.

In the evening, we had a DJ. I made myself sore from all the dancing. We did the Hokey-Pokey, the Funky Cha-cha, another dance I don't know the name of, and the chicken dance. I also danced several dances with a man I met who works with people on the spectrum. His name was Cecil, and he was really nice and must be a super extrovert. Then there was the talent show. There were two guys that each sang a parody song that was funny. There was another guy who sang, and lady that sang, and another lady who sang an original song. There was a group of kids who did gymnastics and hula hoops, and there was a guy and a girl who juggled. Then there was the guy who had won the Oreo contest. He played the hammer dulcimer, and I think he also won the talent contest. There was an older man who sang patriotic songs, and Cecil got the crowd to sing with him. Then there was a lady who sang "God Bless the USA," and we sang with her too. I was bushed at the end of the night, but I still didn't get much sleep because I had to get up in the night to use the bathroom. Our tent was probably the furthest away from the building too. Then there was 4:45 am wake up call yesterday, so we could go to the bathroom, and also start to pack up our stuff. Last but not least, the Andy Griffith car showed up for the actual opening at 6 yesterday morning.

I came home and slept all morning yesterday. I think that nap was the first real sleep I've gotten in a long time.

Now back to today. I've been baking all afternoon. I made mom's birthday cake. Her birthday was Wednesday, but we are having cake with the family tomorrow. I gave her a goody bag on Wednesday for her birthday, and I went with her to Chick-fil-A. Her cake was probably the most difficult one I've ever made. First I had to mix up the cream cheese layer in the mixer. At the same time, I had to mix up the apple-brownie crust by hand in a bowl. i should have cut up the apples before I mixed anything up, but I didn't. While the cake was baking, I cut up five more apples and cooked them on the stove for the topping. That was the part that I'm not sure I did right, but it still tasted good. Then I cooked up some caramel sauce. Agave nectar is a good substitute for honey. I gave mom a cooked apple chunk and some caramel to sample.

Rudy was talking while I was cooking the apples and caramel. I couldn't understand him though.

While I was baking, mom was cleaning the shed. She found mice in one of my crates, a mother with three babies. Luckily I don't really care about the stuff that was in that crate any more, because it was just old marching band contest programs from high school. All the information from those is online now, and I can go look it up whenever I want. Mom is going to toss most of those programs. I trust her enough to know what I want to keep and what I want gotten rid of. The cat was very interested in those mice.

I need to go back down to the kitchen now. The cake needs to be put on a cake plate soon.
