Last night I went to see The Most Serene Republic, the band that my friend Adrian is in.
I didn't want to pay cover so I went around to the back of the venue and pretended I was in the road crew by bringing in a bass amp, which amazingly worked. After that I sat around for about an hour and watched the soundcheck and talked to Adrian every once in a while, and afterwards I went out for a smoke.
While I was outside I noticed a small group of people beside me talking about the band Feist, so naturally I listened in because I like that band. I'm not sure how I came to the realization, but after a few seconds I realized that one of the people in the group was this girl:
Yeah, that's right. Leslie Feist was there. So once I realized this I interuppted their conversation just to tell her that I really like her music, and before I knew it, all of her friends went inside and it was just her and I talking, which was awesome. After about 10-15 minutes of this, this guy comes up to tell Leslie that the show was about to start. Who was it that told her this, you ask? Why, it was Jeff from Broken Social Scene, who immediately introduced himself to me. Then I started talking to him. I don't know what I did to impress these people, but somehow I did, becuase once we were inside, they both followed me to where I was standing to watch the show and talked to me throughout the whole show without me instigating any conversation. Needless to say that was amazing.
And also, The Most Serene Republic is a really good band. At first I was jealous, maybe a little upset, that someone I know made it, but now I know they deserve it. I expected them to be good at best, but they were great. I'm glad I went and I'm looking forward to their album to come out. And anybody who's going to the Toronto Island show, tell me what you think 'cause they're on right before Metric!
