I did a software update yesterday that required a system reboot at the end. Because I was in the middle of something I told the laptop I'd do it later. I don't shut off the laptop at night but only send it to sleep so there was no reboot this morning either when I started up the computer again. After my usual morning routine of checking the news and my emails I do a manual reboot while I go get dressed.
When I return the laptop screen is black and no lights are blinking. Shock horror the laptop died! The software update killed my computer! I google on my phone for info about the software update and dying computers... and there are hits. Oh god, the update had serious problems in the code. I thought they were fixed, that's why I waited so long with the update. I frantically register for the software support forum and leave an indignant request for help and then search for the warranty papers (still within warranty, thank god).
I get an answer from a support admin telling me to remove the battery and unplug the power cord. Thank you for telling me to effectively turn it on and off again, dear admin, I am not computer illiterate. Except... you know how the laptop power cords have that square element in the middle, and how the cord can become unplugged on one end of that square element. Oops.
I guess the battery ran low and I accidentally unplugged the power cord before rebooting.
