Master's degrees in France

I'm looking into Master's degree programs at French universities and have come across some worrisome statements concerning the value of such a degree outside of France. My questions are under the cut.

This morning I received placement in a teaching assistantship program in France. Assistants in this program often have a lot of free time on their hands and pursue a Master's degree during their stay, so I have been looking into getting my Master's in France. However, I'm finding a LOT of conflicting information about the ultimate worth of a Master's degree from a French university. They are reportedly cheaper and take less time, but some French students have said that they came to the U.S. to complete their graduate studies because the universities here are stronger and their degrees are more accepted worldwide. Some folks even said that degrees from a French university will not be recognized in the U.S. at all.

It would be great to save a lot of money (which I don't have in the first place) completing a Master's program in France, but I'm concerned that the degree will be worthless elsewhere. Someone suggested I look into the American University in Paris, which is accredited in the U.S., but I would prefer not to live in Paris and the university is much more expensive. I would also consider programs in the UK but I haven't really researched that option yet.

I will most likely be working in the humanities.

I would really appreciate any advice you have. I can't find any concrete information online and I'm at a loss.

Thank you!
