"Have fun hatin on theory!"
From time to time, the question of what "theory" is, and how we feel about it, pops up in this community. Recent examples include this post, this, this, and this. Each time, some of us express concern or dislike, or question the relevance and importance of Theory, types of theory, etc; but these opinions are often not all that welcome. It is sometimes suggested that
academics_anon is not the best place to have these discussions.
This is partly why we now have a new community,
theoryisnotcrew.
theoryisnotcrew - or Theory Is Not All That - is a place for those who feel like dissing Theory without feeling silenced or shot down in flames.
It is also a place for talking smack about a particular theorist with (relative) impunity, so even if you don't hate theory but you hate a type of theory, we might be the place for you to vent. It is a place for raising issues and questioning the academic status quo. We are a fun, lighthearted community that doesn't take itself too seriously. But as we are a just starting out, we have a rule against anti-anti-theory snark: there are already plenty of places for that.
