Re: we're all trying to outrun something - Mark, Mark/Lexie, pg-15littleone87May 10 2009, 08:34:05 UTC
GAH!!!!!!! Are you kidding me? This is PERFECT!!!! I didn't have any expectation in mind. I just thought running and posted it!
The resulting heartbreak alone (and yeah, he does have a heart go figure)was enough to ward him off forever. Oh my goodness. This line just kills me. Poor, sweet, Mark. Of COURSE he has a heart, and he got it broken so badly, why should he want to get into anything remotely romantic again?
Enough to send him running in the other direction whenever a situation arose that even looked like it was heading towards something even resembling commitment.
Beautiful. This is the best "running" response I could have asked for. Mark is always running in the other direction. He doesn't know how to have a steady and stable relationship. It's natural for him to run away.
but the sheer need to stay on equal footing with Derek is always going to be there.
Again, Poor Mark. Always comparing and trying to prove himself to be not that bad. Prove himself worthy. Especially to Derek.

I've read this over and over now, and I still can't think of a comment that does justice to how much I like it.
You capture him just beautifully. To me, it's really important when writing Mark to get the balance right between "he's Mark Sloan" and his vulnerability and you've done this impeccably here. Then you've added his struggle to change and how he's almost there . . . just wow!

Schmoopiness and Mark Sloan definitely don't belong together! You have nothing to fear on this score. (But now I want an icon that says something like "Just say no to Schmoopy!Mark" or a wittier version of that!!)

Hooooly shit. That was just awesome. Like...no words, really. I loved this so so so much:
He kissed her and fucked her (although later, when he has some perspective and two feet firmly on the ground instead of half-way out the door, he will realize it was probably the other way around)
And the last line? Perfection. Just the image of their feet entwined = squee-o-rama here.

Maybe underneath it all he hasn’t changed that much, maybe people really can’t change (every day, every single day it is a process, an uphill battle, trying to prove that universal fact wrong) but the sheer need to stay on equal footing with Derek is always going to be there. The sheer need to have his best friend, his family, on his side again is motivation for almost every decision he makes.
Yeah. Just.... Yeah. You always say you can't write Mark, but then you write things similar to this and I just understand where you get off.

I'm just going to give an extremely girly "Gah!" and leave it at that. =D Oh, and I sort of LOVE the way you managed to fit in his issues with Addison, Lexie and Derek this effectively in something so concise. Just...Gah!
