Today was an awesome day because:
I received a reply email this morning from Mrs. Holt my Algebra teacher from FCCJ saying she would be thrilled to write a letter of reference for me for the peace corps. So now my biggest hurdle of this whole application process is done. I have gotten 3 people to commit to write letters. Although I still have to do all of the other stuff too, but I plan to finish up by next week when I have absolutely nothing else planned except for Chinese class.
I got my first mail from home, a Christmas card from my Dad and it was such a nice surprise. He is also the only one to call me since my arrival back here. Yeah, he is pretty right on.
I had my first, last class today with class # 1. and I gave them their grades. It went well. We played some games and just had some small talk. I have the last class with class # 8 tomorrow. Their grades are done, but not classes 6 and 7, which meets last on Friday. On my way to class at 3:30 it started to snow, heavily for the first time this season! We had a tiny bit a few weeks ago, but nothing that stuck. All through the class we stopped to look outside and comment on how fast it was coming down. It really was a special class today.
Picture just before class this afternoon from the third floor window. The snow came down super fast and felt like powder.
Class # 1 today
When I came out of class at 5, it was already starting to get dark.
My bike after class.
My commute home today by bike was my best ever. I saw middle school children all dressed in their same turquoise uniforms playing soccer in the snow and kicking big clumps of snow with the ball. I saw a father put a handful of snow on a child's head and then saw the child do the same. I saw elementary school children that are usually crying for who knows why, totally mesmerized by the snow, walking with unbuttoned coats. I saw two middle school girls wearing so many clothes they could hardly move, throwing clumps of snow at each other.
I saw a great chick flick tonight
20:30:40 that had some quite humorous happenings. I really liked it because there was stuff written that was so true to life, for instance; here in China it is not uncommon for a person to have two or more cell phones, one for just the city they live in, because the rates are so low, and the other for the whole country, and perhaps even another for international calls. Anyway they showed one of the girls fumbling around for the correct ringing phone, and I just had to think, that is so true. I also liked the character of the 40 year old, she was hilariously silly when she got home drunk when she got together with tennis coach, maybe 10 years her junior, and he was way to active to her to handle in so many ways. Yep, it was a funny, feel good flick.
