first week of classes

It has been a crazy week. Classes started on Monday and so far so good. I think I am really going to like the sophomore oral class that I picked up for Margaret. They are so spunky and full of energy. My Phd. students are eager, but not quite as much as the sophomores, as most all already have jobs, spouses, and some even a child. Not to sound too boastful, but I feel that my teaching style is the best for what we are doing. I am giving pointers to my fellow teachers, they have tried the ideas and have already given me positive feedback. Ed the other teacher that teaches oral to the Phd. students totally changed his teaching methods after he tried some of my ideas last semester. I feel like kind of a teacher dork because this is what I like to do, and I know how to do it well. It is not often that someone can say that about their job. I am reveling in it at the moment. I know that my ACES experience has a lot to do with it and for that I am grateful for the opportunity I was given there. The secure freedom they gave me in my teaching allowed me to continue in different areas.

Aside from by big head, I also have a cold. I have been sick for the past few days and have not been going to the gym or even to Chinese class on Friday. I just felt so weak and tired on Friday. I am not taking any meds, but I have been working out a lot recently and my body feels strong overall. I think it's good to put the immune system in check every now and then. I am drinking lots of fluids, including an AWESOME ginger tea Melissa gave me for my birthday.

still smoke free :)

Norah Jones is in Beijing on Monday. I was going to go, was planning on it for a couple of months, but changed my mind when I found out how expensive the tickets were. Then xiaochao called the other day to say that she saw an ad in the paper. The price of the tickets went down by half. I was so ready to go until I realized that I had picked up the extra sophomore class that meets on Monday nights. Norah Jones is in Beijing Monday the 7th. Oh well. I can't imagine seeing her in such a huge venue anyway. I would totally be in the nosebleed section too.
