Niels and I made twinkie corn dogs in the cream canoe pan.
My little helper.
His favorite part of any baking project is using the scooper.
I must admit they didn't look terribly appetizing.
(I think the cornbread batter was too dry.)
They were also a bit crumbly once baked.
Mmm, hot dog cross-section.
And in the end, Niels took them apart too eat them (as did Erik).
Oh well.
I also made vegan twinkie-esque cakes today with the pan. I used the
white cake and
chocolate frosting recipes from
VegWeb. I added a bit of extra soy milk (actually Silk Creamer) to the frosting to make it a bit creamier. They were pretty darn good. I took them to Trip and Yoko's for dinner and Trip even said they smelled like real Twinkies. I need to make them with the filling recipes I've found for "real" Twinkie filling because the recipes call for marshmallow fluff and Trip was insisting that it should just be cream. He was also horrified that Erik has never had a Twinkie and hasn't eaten at McDonald's in five years. Clearly, not a real American.
