Homeplot: Out for Drinks

Jun 07, 2007 22:20

The bamboozling of NCIS had been successful.  Lisa had played her role perfectly and Gibbs had suspected nothing from Lisa or Abby.  Tony had gotten a headslap or three for "making eyes at the consultant," and Ziva had accused him of having cats in his belfry at one point (Abby was fairly certain she meant bats), but overall it had gone well.  Tim ( Read more... )

Now this? This was fun. It was the sort of thing Lisa rarely did in Princeton but had done plenty of times prior, when medical school was a not so distant memory and other things were less than pleasant. But now it was different, and being in Abby and Tony's world, seeing what they did on a daily basis? It was a good, vibrant change and she liked it ( ... )

Tony wasn't actually sure that being sandwiched in a booth between Ziva and Lisa was the healthiest place to be, but at the same time was he ever enjoying it. He held up his Vodka Martini (shaken, not stirred, of course) and raised an eyebrow at Abby. "How about just to us, and having a Friday night off?"

"Don't say that, Tony," Tim said with a shake of his head. He coughed softly and took another sip of his drink. Abby was certainly being a little more...friendly than normal. Not that he was going to precisely complain. "If you say that, you'll jinx us and Gibbs will call us back in with new information." That was how it always happened, of course.

"When was the last time we had a Friday night off?" Abby asked, considering whether to move away from McGee and deciding against it. The booth just wasn't that big.

"It was precisely three months ago," Ziva supplied, sipping her ale.

"Right. And let's not even talk about Saturday nights."

"You mean the nonexistant Saturday nights? The ones that magically roll over into Sunday mornings and leave you wondering what happened?" Lisa knew them all too well, and grinned after a sip of her drink.

Hmm..that was good music. She might - might - coerce Tony into that dance. Though they were pretty close to one another now and she didn't think it'd take much coercing at all.

Ziva was making little faces as Lisa talked, rolling her eyes. Tony glared at her.

"What? What did I do?" Ziva had a way of sounding completely innocent even when she was caught in the middle of something.

"Ziva." One word, his tone said it all, and she flopped back into her chair, glaring back at him.

"Too many non-existent night. Or being woken up at all hours, not leaving til its three days later." Tony knew it too well.

"Abby has the right idea," Tim said, nodding. "A hideaway bed in her lab." He'd even used it once or twice. For mostly sleeping, although there had been that time... He shook his head.

"Of course, the rest of us wouldn't have enough room to sleep up at our desks."

He noticed the glares that Ziva was giving the new woman. Or at least, noticed once Tony had said something. But he wasn't sure why. He began to wonder if he'd missed something.

"Yes, it's come in handy many times," Abby agreed, with a slightly wicked twinkle in her eyes, raising an eyebrow fractionally at Tim. Being able to turn the security cameras off was a wonderful thing.

Ziva settled back in her chair, almost sulking, which was not attractive, but whatever. Abby shot her a warning glance. If she was going to be so obvious about her jealousy, she was going to get herself in trouble.

"That's enough work. Anyone seen any good movies lately?" she offered, although she was sure they hadn't...due to the aforementioned work.

It didn't take a lot of reasoning to figure out Ziva must have been interested in Tony - either that or adamant on not being interested which usually had the same effect in the end. Thankfully, Lisa was feeling too good to worry much about it.

"Can't say I have," she said, and gave Abby a grin, an if-we-had-a-cinema-on-the-island.. grin. If that had been the case? Much, much less would get done than it already did. "Heard some good music, though."

She grinned, light and easy and confident.

"Not much time for movies." Tony shot Abby a look that said what kind of question is that, we've been stuck on an island for who knows how long and you ask about movies? Okay, it likely didn't say all of that, but its what he'd meant by it.

Tony ignored Ziva's sulking, turning to Lisa. "Hope Abs didn't work you too hard Dr Cuddy. She has a reputation for being a harsh mistress." Okay, so he flicked McGee a quick glance on that one. Very quick. Really.

"Abby, you know I've been busy with--" Tim began. And then he heard Tony's last statement...and started coughing. Choking, really, on his drink. He glared at Tony just as he saw the glance that was sent his way.

Yes, Tony, he thought to himself. Keep taunting. Very soon, you're going to have a pissed off Israeli who's not going to listen to pleas to stop.

Finally, he stopped coughing. "With my book," he said finally. "I haven't had time to go out to the movies."

Abby raised one "I know where you sleep" eyebrow at Tony, but didn't dignify his statement other than that. She also patted Tim on the back to help him stop coughing. If her fingers were slightly caressing, that certainly wasn't her fault.

"Honestly, people, I try to keep us from talking shop and all of you shut me down. Except my friend Dr. Cuddy over there, thank you Lisa."

Ziva appeared to take this as a taunt. "I recently viewed The Saggy Dog. I did not understand it. American humor is so strange."

"Oh you're very welcome," Lisa said. "Can't hurt to have some fun, right?" It was a good time for her fingers to find Tony's, and she didn't think he was quite expecting it but then really didn't believe he'd mind. His skin was warm against hers and she kept the contact hidden beneath the table and between them.

Ziva's comment sent a sharp grin to curve her lips, and Lisa glanced at Abby to see if she was laughing too or immune to it.

"That's the SHAGGY Dog Ziva. Shaggy. Not Saggy." It was the same old exasperated and amused tone he often used with Ziva. He turned back towards her, his fingers still resting against Lisa's.

"That's barely what I'd call humour. It's designed for children."

"Nothing saggy about it," Tim said before he realized that there were three women at the table who could read into that statement. Read a lot into it. And Abby was sitting on him, almost. Not a good place to be if she decided to be unhappy with him. He cleared his throat.

"Children's movies are good, sometimes, Tony. It just depends on which ones you watch."

"Oh, yeah, totally. Like, The Muppet Movie. I love that thing. 'A bear in his natural habitat...a Studebaker," she agreed, imitating Fozzie easily and finally removing her hand from Tim's back since he was definitely not choking now. She did sling it across the back of the booth, though.

"But not most of the Disney movies. Talk about turning women into caricatures of themselves."
