I meant to post about a lovely Thanksgiving dinner, but my beloved Great Aunt ( who has always been more of a grandmother to me) had a minor stroke this week, so many plans were derailed. Since she lives alone, we're not exactly when it happened but she was incoherent on the phone the night before Thanksgiving and was extremely dehydrated when she was admitted to the hospital. My mother spent Thanksgiving sending me updates from the hospital via iPad so I was kind of a mess that day and nearly set the turkey on fire. Amazingly it turned out anyway, and I did my best not to sour the event with my worry. Even more importantly, Aunt Phyllis is already regaining her ability to speak and walk and is very impatient to get out of bed. She's an amazing woman.
This is the only picture of Phyllis that I happen to have on my iPod at the moment. Her brother Martin, my grandfather, had a heart attack when I was nine so I didn't know him well. I mostly remember carting plants around in the back lot of the nursery that he owned called Sierra Gardens. He had been a Navy man, but made a big switch later in life. He was very much an urban guy though.
Sorry if this is kind of rambling. I'm trying to do too many things at once.
