Have you always been religious, if not why and do you identify with a given ethnic background.. as in Russian Jew, Turkish Jew, etc.?

For more than a decade -- up until I was in college -- I wasn't religious at all. I'm not really sure what it is that brought me back, but it's an integral part of me now. Because of not having done anything in terms of religion for so long, I do feel like I "missed out" -- including not getting a bar mitzvah -- and I have to play "catch up" now.

As of "what kind" of Jew -- my mother's family are Russian and Persian but that didn't seem to affect how we practiced or identified, at least by the time it got to me. Really, the only sign is that my mother's Hebrew is kind of Sephardic and has "Arabic" traces like the ayn. I, however, can still not pronounce the damned thing. -_-
