Today Carl and I went to our favourite Indian restaurant and, to our surprise, the waitress was working tonight. If you recall she had a seizure in front of us, and this is when we were told that she was having surgery to treat the part of the brain that was causing her seizures -- she's very lucky in this case, as for many people this simply isn't an option.
We didn't think she'd be back for months, but she was spry and on her feet, and explained to us the Diwali buffet message on the board. I knew OF Diwali -- and it being a "festival of lights," but outside of that I admit that I didn't know a lot, so she explained to me both Hindu and Sikh tales of the holiday. She mentioned that most people were at temple on Saturday for the holiday and thus they had longer hours, but I had no idea that a Sikh or Hindu temple were anywhere in the area. In other words: I'm sometimes very amazed by how many GAPS I have in my knowledge of the world around me. :: laugh ::
