So, I watched the pilot of Supernatural. I need to state for reference that I blame comic books. I was looking for batfamily fic when I started reading SPN family fic and kept reading them.
To my shame, I kind of liked it? It didn't hurt that the first scene basically has what I want in fic: Dean kissing Sam, Dean jumping in John's arms for a hug, Mary being awesome in the three seconds we see of her, John shoving Sam in Dean's arms and - okay you get the picture.
I remember seeing somewhere that there was an AU where Jessica didn't die and joins the boys on their hunt and I'll need to find it. I really liked her. She was sweet and supportive.
As for the boys. The acting wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and the actors do have good chemistry together. Their dynamic is basically this:
Dean: *IS AN ASSHOLE*
Sam: *is long suffering*
Which appeals to me. Dialogue is also realy good - the show was at its best when Dean and Sam were trading barbs. And, as I suspected, I like Sam best. He's kinda cute and has ~feelings~ and all and uses his feelings to connect with the people around them. And he realizes that his dad giving him a gun when he's nine is really fucked up.
Things I didn't like:
-Dean calling a woman and his brother a bitch. Ass.
-Dean's treatment of Jessica. First, women are not sex objects for your desire. Second that's your brother's girlfriend. Gross.
-The ghost story. Husband cheats and wife goes insane and kills her kids and herself and becomes a ghost and kills unfaithful men and when she finds a man who is faithful she sexually assaults him. DID YOU REALLY HAVE TO GO THERE? Did you pick up a book called 'Best Of Misogynistic Ghost Stories' and use that as a source for plot bunnies?
Sadly I won't really be able to discuss things a lot here cos my brother is going to have the Internets for WoW. Feel free to discuss among yourselves. Spoilers welcome.
