I wrote something! I don't hate it. And it was fun. I just... am not sure where to go with it next. It's a Gundam Wing AU thing. Heero and Duo are partners in a war torn North America and are contacted by Quatre, a rich kid raised in a pacifist family, and discuss it.
"Hey, Mr. Sunshine," Duo said, sparing a glance at Heero before turning his eyes back on the road, "do you think the kid is legit?"
"You read people better than me," Heero said.
"No," Duo said, "I read normal people better. Suicidal chicks and the like are the ones you can figure out."
"You think Quatre is like Relena?" And of course her name would get Heero to look up from his laptop. Not a billionaire kid who knew their mission and was in the position to screw them up. No, that was just par for the course for them. Duo might as well have been talking about basketball as far as Heero was concerned.
"Not exactly," Duo said and rolled his eyes as Heero went back to his laptop. "I'm just saying no normal kid would give up a pampered life and travel half-way across the world to join a helpless cause."
"It's more than that," Heero said and Duo could hear in Heero's voice that he was on mission mode. Duo was grateful. Whatever had happened between him and Relena had rattled him enough so that his head wasn't in the game one hundred percent. Normally, Duo would encourage this but this wasn't a normal situation. "Winner cooperation has a long history of total pacifism. They're extremely careful about making sure that their resources aren't used in war efforts."
"They also donate tons of cash for projects to help war orphans," Duo said, suddenly recalling Father Maxwell receiving enough funds from Winner Corporation to feed everyone for a year. Duo overheard him and Sister Helen talking about how orphanages and churches taking in orphans across the entire state had gotten money as well. It was the only moment Duo ever thought maybe God existed.
"In the past three years, they've also started to lobby governments around the world to try and help resolve the American Conflict," Heero said.
Duo huffed. "That's a total waste of time. Oz and the Alliance want complete control and neither will back down." From the corner of his eye, Duo saw Heero crack a small smile. "At any rate, it's safe to say this kid has grown up in a radically pacifist environment. Another reason why him being here and helping us makes no sense."
"Quatre made a statement a three years ago against his father's policies," Heero said.
"Three years, huh? What he say?"
"I can't find his official statement," Heero said. "Well, at least not in any of the hundreds of articles published across the world."
"Still up on the blogs?" Duo grinned as Heero nodded. "Hit me."
"While I respect the legacy of my family's total pacifism, I don't think standing around and doing nothing but putting band-aids on the problem will do anything other than get more people killed."
"That all?" Duo drummed his fingers on the steering wheel.
"He sent this statement to several different news outlets across the world but it appears that his father wouldn't let him be interviewed any further." Heero closed his laptop. "Everything else I've found about it is really just speculation on exactly what his intentions were, what drew him to that conclusion, and if his words would have any affect on Winner Cooperations policies."
"What do you think?" Duo asked.
"I can't draw any conclusions about his motives," Heero said, "but I do think that his statement was at least part of the reason why Winner Cooperation has gotten involved into international politics."
"Makes sense with the timing," Duo agreed. "Do you think this kid is really him?"
"Yes."
"Any reason why?"
"Just a feeling," Heero said.
Duo turned into a run down apartment complex, the place that they were supposed to meet Quatre. Duo didn't trust much, but after working with Heero for almost a year, he'd learned to trust Heero's instincts on matters like these. "Why do you think he gave us his real name?"
"He wanted us to research into his past," Heero said.
Duo parked into a free parking space and rose an eyebrow. "So I guess he wasn't just saying he wanted us to trust him."
Heero nodded sharply as he put his laptop into his backpack. "What do you think?"
"That things are about to get a whole lot more interesting."
It has a plot! I just wish I could find it.
