The ottomans. The over-sized, leftover from the 80's, gifts from Roxanne... ottomans. Are now the recovered, reupholstered coffee table / ottomans.
I didn't do the upholstering on the Gold ottoman. Roxanne did. And she gave me the ottoman cause she basically wanted it out of her house. She also promised to show me how to upholster the other ottoman. She had the fabric... it was leftover from VF and claimed before it was thrown into the dumpsters. So a upholstering we did go.
The gold ottoman did not have a bottom on it when I brought it home. So when we were finishing up the white one I had some thoughts on how I would have done things a little different. I would have put some of the scrap wood / moulding over the staples so that would have cleaned it up. Then Roxanne said that usually there was Black fabric on the bottom so you never would have seen it. And then we both had an idea. So we searched for some fabric... any kind to go on the bottom. But with no luck. Oh well.
Before I started loading up the car, I pulled it into the garage so I could stand on it to change a light bulb. As I go to jump down off the car, I see a bolt of black fabric. I asked her if that would work and she said "Hell Yeah!" She had forgotten all about the bolt. She thought she had taken it to good will. Lucky for me she hadn't. We cut off enough to do both ottomans with a little left over for another project I have in mind.
I did the gold one first. I learned a lot on that one. I used the crown stapler gun with the compressor. I first used a bunch of scrap wood to make a frame to staple to. then I stapled the fabric to it. It's not real pretty, but it does the job.
then I attached the fabric
Now the white one I did things a little different. I took the wood and rolled the edge of the fabric around it and then attached it to the inside. The nails are hidden and it is a much cleaner finish.
