I have had a few things on my list for literally 5 years or more. I have even had the materials to do said project bought, paid for and stored in the garage or elsewhere in this house. One of those many projects was ... Paint the Snapper Lawnmower. I got this mower used. Lisa brought it home for me to use in the yard. I think it was free. I then paid My little ol' Lawn mower man $350 for a new engine on it. He delivered it to the house and I have been using it ever since. Wreaking havoc on the fence and of pretty much anything that happened to be in my way. I think that was in 2003 when Homer the Snapper Mower came here. He is from the 1980's. A series 5 - Hi-Vac 8HP rear engine rider. He's been around the yard a few times20 years before I got him. He never was a looker, but boy that monster cuts a mean yard. Here is what he looks like before...
I started working on this project tonight. I have been sanding down the rust spots. I know I'm supposed to primer on the pare metal, but I didn't. It's a rustoleum product. It should last long enough. I started painting as well. I have already gone through a can of spray paint. Once I'm done painting it, I'll go through and clean up the overspray. You know... the details.
I plan on replacing some of the parts as well...
- the muffler kit
- the air filter
- the tires
- the seat
- the spark plug
- the non skid pads on the pedals
- probably the stickers
I think it will look great... and maybe it will last for a couple more years. I was telling my dad that If I take care of it, it will keep me from having to shell out $400 - $500 for a used snapper that may not be half and good as this one has been.
I looking forward to completion on this project.
