Revelations of a Trekkie

So, once upon a time, I went to Star Trek conventions. TOS (The Original Series for those of you who don't know), because I'm just THAT old. And I saw a bunch of the actors I loved (not Nimoy or Shatner though) in person ( Read more... )

I got a great con story. We went to a con in LA and I somehow ended up watching everyone's coats and pocketbooks while they were doing something on stage. Anyhow, I was sitting there and suddenly Bill Shatner plunked down beside me and these TV reporters were interviewing him.

Shatner - I'll show you what I mean. To me Who's your favorite ST character?

Without a moment's hesitation, I answered, "Spock"

Shatner: That's what I'm talking about. He didn't hold it against me, though. So while the others were running around, I got to sit beside Bill Shatner and he put his arm around me. *grin*

It was nice of him to take the Spock love so well. :)

I (and my nephew) rode up in a hotel elevator with Robert Beltran and his handler, ran across Robert Duncan McNeill coming out of a men's hotel bathroom while I was on my way in to the women's, and passed Walter Koenig in one of the back hallways at Toronto Trek. That's about it for memorable encounters. :)

If I have placed 3 similar comments, delete two of them. I'm not having much luck today. :)

I'm definitely old enough to have seen episode one - and all the rest - but I've never been to a ST convention or get-together. I've certainly never met any of the actors either!

Just one comment so far. Star Trek conventions used to be a lot of fun before studios turned them into mega-moneymakers. And you can't blame the actors for jumping on the bandwagon and wanting their piece of the pie. I think everyone should attend at least one so you know what you're making fun of. :)
