Hi everyone! Yes, I am alive and yes, I did survive the trip. Though, I have to say, I think I may actually be conquering my plane phobia thing. Considering my love of travel, this could be deemed a major accomplishment.

Isn't it funny, though, how all of your flights can depart and arrive on time without any annoying airport complications, and you still manage to do fun things like leave your tickets in a shop or walk onto a plane without even knowing your seat number? And did I mention the regrettable incident of desperately trying to open a bag of chex mix (obviously I hadn't eaten anything all day) and only succeeding in having the bag explode all over the people sitting on either side of me?

But now I am home. So far I have talked to my old boss and three temp agencies...nothing. Which, seemingly, would be very nice. I have very few bills and taking a week or two off would be nice and relaxing. Yeah, well, until I hear about my internship longshot my life is completely on hold. Plus, in case some kind of miracle happens, I have to be ready to support myself in London for a month. So, money, kinda important right now. But it's early yet, and I'm trying to distract myself with long baths, books, and movies.

Since my posts generally include something interesting, and being home for the next few weeks will make interesting stories an impossibility, I will briefly relate my trip into Reno last Saturday. Marcus, Terry, Graeme, and I decided to go the scenic route. Along the way we enjoyed watching cowboys round up cattle, stopped to take pictures of surrounding mountaintops, found ourselves in the town of nowhere (seriously, there was sign and a huge Shrek and donkey...I have no idea), and walked the beach of pyramid lake (http://www.nevadaweb.com/cnt/r-t/pyramid/). Then we decided to take a side trip and visit Virginia City, a small old west town near Carson City. Honestly, I fell in love with it http://www.desertusa.com/Cities/nv/nv_virginiacity.html. Tons of beautiful old restored homes, a gorgeous cemetery set against the Sierra Nevadas, and a main street complete with wooden-planked sidewalks and saloons that included relics like the Suicide Table and plenty of old 25 cent machines. Plus, once upon a time Mark Twain worked as a writer for one of the stores. It was really neat, and if you're into that sort of thing, I definitely recommend it.

Oh, and lastly, I have a favor to ask. A friend of mine is attempting to cross the northern United States for the first time. He will be alone and using the train system. He is planning on stopping in Portland, Vancouver, Chicago, and Boston. If you have ever been to any of these places (I have not), could you please recommend any interesting local sites, attractions, cheap lodgings. Essentially, what he should see or do while in those cities, whether it's big touristy stuff or more unknown local stuff. Seriously, he would love any information you could provide.

Well, I think I've taken up enough of your friends page. Hope you're having a good day and this provided enough distraction.
