Spring Scream @ Kenting!

Kenting, kenting, kenting!

This weekend felt like a five day vacation. We rented a car and drove down Friday night around 8 pm. Charles was DJing at 3 am and we it was definitely intense trying to get down there on time. Lex and I had never met any of the girls, or Chad, but it was cool cuz some of them were from Vic. Hahah there was a point in the trip when the drunk girls were singing songs at the top of their lungs and Charles, who was driving, totally freaked out and told them to shut up!! Hahah. We finally get to Kenting after 6 hours...Charles rushes off with the promoter, and I had to drive the van through the back beach alleys until we got to the site. It was an outdoor party, nothing like the half-moon party in Thailand, but still pretty cool.
Spring Scream was insane...there were tons of stages at different locations around Kenting, with tons of people performing. We didn't get pre-sale tickets so we didn't go to any of the shows, but on Saturday morning , a bunch of DJs were playing on the beach and it was nice just to chill and watch the sunrise. Nicole, Kyoko, who was visiting from Japan, and I slept in the car for two hours before heading to breckie. We spent most of Saturday on the beach with the crew. Kenting is beautiful, but I was shocked at the amount of people there.
Saturday night was a blast. There were thousands of people walking on the main street...there were lots of street vendors and stores along the road, and I had to control my urges to buy everything is sight. Girls danced on top of trucks, the rich and the fabolous youngsters of Taiwan drove by in their Mercedes and BMWs and a DJ stage blasted techno into the air.
Alex, Charles and I tried to sneak into a huge rave, and we almost got away with it, before we were escorted out...haha. Everyone was fucked up on X, or K. We finally made our way back to the beach and this is when the story gets interesting.

.....

So, there I am minding my own business and this guy comes and sits beside me. He is from Halifax and we have an awesome connection from the beginning. Haha, oh yeah, we were sitting and talking when all of a sudden this firecracker comes straight into us. I flipped out, and pushed my boy out of the way, but damage was already done. My foot had all these blood marks on it, and the boy's underarm was totally bleeding. People are so fucked up here with firecrackers...they just don't give a shit. For the rest of the night, we both jumped everytime one would go off.

Anyways, back to the story...so this boy has only been here for two months. He lives just outside of Taipei and on one of his first nights out, he goes to a bar and gets really hammered. He goes home with an older Taiwanese woman who ends up being one of the top women in the Taiwanese mafia. So, he becomes her boy bitch and she in return spends thousands on him and gives him the high life. He gets V.I.P into any club in Taipei, drives her Mercedes and has it set. However, the boy is stuck. He kept telling me that he wanted to get out of the relationship, and he sounded really nervous about it.

Haha, so we were down at the beach after breakfast and all of a sudden he sees the mafia queen's best friend. He got kind of nervous, but he told me that she was cool and that she wouldn't say anything. He said that it would be better if he introduced me. I was hesitant, but we had to pass her to get off the beach. So we get up and go over to say hello. She asked me for my name and repeated it a couple times...haha I guess she had to put into memory. I kicked myself afterwards for giving her my real name.

So, we leave and go on a really nice walk near a monastary which overlooked these huge cliffs on the ocean. The boy is definitely a sweetheart and very cute. I felt really sorry for him, cuz he is just a normal guy in a really fucked up situation. I told him that he could always get out of it, and that he shouldn't dig himself deeper by staying in the relationship. I said that his safety and health were most important.

So, we go back to the beach and he points out this black Mercedes to me and says "hey, that looks just like her car," but both of us were too scattered to take it as a warning. We go down to the beach and sure enough she is right there. He totally flips out, and I just turned around and walked away. I don't want to get involved with the mafia no matter where I am in the world, and Taiwan is no exception.

I met up with Alex and Rene and we sit down for a meal. I look across the steet and the boy and his friend are there. I didn't want to run across...but for some reason I did. He was still shaken up and apologized. We exchanged emails, hugged and kissed, while his sketchy friend looked at us nervously. I told him to take care of himself, and he told me that he would email soon and that he wanted to come to Taipei to see me. I laughed and told him that he needed to deal with his stuff first. Craziness. The funny thing is that he is going on a visa run today to Hong Kong and she is going with him. It's really fucked up that he is in this positin...who knows what she could do if he pissed her off.

So, for the rest of the day, I tried to get some rest and to exert the least amount of energy in the hot, hot air. I ran into Steven, the cute Taiwanese boy fron the gym. He introduced me to his friends, and we had a nice chat, even though I had just woken up from a nap. Oh yeah, I also saw model Martha and her unfriendly model/singer friends. She gave me a huge hug, as he friends looked us up and down. Hahah, they make me laugh every time, get over yourselves people. We met up with our new druggie friends at the campsite, and had some good talks.

I wanted to leave Kenting, around 6ish, but some people wanted to stay longer, thinking that traffic was going to be bad. We finally got our butts in gear around 8 and just like I thought there was no traffic. Now, I can say that I drove from one tip of Taiwan to the other. Most of the peeps were passed out for the trip, but I did have good chats with Larissa and Rene, who helped me navigate. I was still buzzing on my coffee high when we got to Taipei at 3 am. I was so happy to be in my bed, and not in front of the wheel. Leading morning exercise at work after 4 hours of sleep was not fun. I am feeling much better today, and looking forward to my nap this afternoon.
