Last night I go to let in Dorian, and usually the second I open the door, he comes running from where ever he is. This time, nothing. I call his name, nothing. I had just taken my contact lenses out, so I go get my glasses, then go back outside to find the back gate opened. The little bastard escaped! I thought for a second about just letting him come back on his own, then decided I wouldn't be able to sleep, then headed out to find him. At first I took my car, I thought my headlights might help, which ended up not being a very good idea. Turns out my glasses are further out of date than I thought. I could barely see. I brought my car home, and when I got out of it, I could hear some dogs barking. So I headed in the direction of the noise, figuring he was off tormenting some other dog that couldn't get out of their yard. I walk down to Berry Street which is 3 streets behind mine, and head towards the post office since that is where the barks sounded like they were coming. Then they stopped. At this point, I was pretty cold, since I just left the house in PJ pants, flip flops, and an old tshirt so worn and thin it's practically see through. So I decided I was just going down to the end of the street, then turning back. I thought my chances of finding a black dog at 10:30 at night were pretty slim if he didn't want to be found. I was almost at the end of the street when the barking started up again, and this time sounded a lot closer. Then Dorian comes bounding up to me. Yay, mommy, I'm out playing, isn't this fun, glad you could make it! Little brat. At which point I realize, hey, forgot the leash, wonderful! I grab him by the collar and plan on getting him home that way, but he has way too much energy and I didn't really want to walk 6 or 7 blocks bent at the waist. Luckily, he wanted me to join in in his merriment and wouldn't go too far from me. He would run up ahead of me, turn around, run back to me, run behind me, then repeat. We were almost home, when a car came that wanted to turn into a street we were at the corner of. Dorian wasn't stopping, so I started running towards him. Not so easy in flip flops. Luckily, the people in the car saw him. They stopped, and he ran up to the car, and sniffed a head light. The people in the car thought that was pretty funny. I finally got him home, and he was bounding around the house, completely wound up. I figured at this point, I wasn't going to be able to sleep until 1am. He calmed down, then completely crashed about 15 minutes later. Then slept solid until my alarm went off. He never does that, he usually wakes me up around 5 to go outside. But my alarm went off, and instead of bounding up out of bed, like he usually does, he rolled over, cuddled up against me, and looked at me like "Can't we just lie around in bed all day?" If only we could... I did have a dream that I called out to do just that though. This morning I made sure there was no way he was getting out again, I chained up the gate. :)
