TV all over the place!

Jul 20, 2007 01:33

After a month of nothing much to watch I suddenly feel inundated with TV this week.

  • First I started working again, which means TV eight hours a day.
  • Then the Emmy nominations came out (I'm pleased Jenna was nominated, but the Emmys have become such a joke that it doesn't really mean anything in the long run).
  • Jon and Stephen are back! And I ( Read more... )

Eh. I think this post and this comment are probably good reads on the situation. I don't think they'll start banning people for underage fic. Unless, I don't know, some sort of Underage Fic Jihad group tells them to.

Before their last cock-up I would have read the situation about the same, but at this point I don't really trust them one bit. Plus, the fact that this is now the official line means that the next time pornish_pixies gets TOSed, it's staying TOSed. Hell, veronicamarsfic could very well get deleted (and the mods would have no recourse whatsoever considering these rules), and in a fandom like VM, where pretty much everyone used LJ as their fic depository, that could be a very very bad thing.

Um, yeah, everything you just said there re: VM, my own roleplaying writing aside, was a massive reason I had a not so little freakout over this news. It makes me more than a little worrisome and feel a lot constricted as to what I'm actually allowed to write. And it mystifies me in light of what is allowed to be broadcast on say, HBO (I point to Big Love and Ben/Brynn as my example here, and Ben is 16). Sure, it's not as graphic as some of the NC-17 fic, but it's implied and underage, which by what LJ's laid out for us makes it illegal and obscene, no?

To be honest, I don't think LJ knows jack about what it's doing. Too many people giving conflicting statements and making policies that aren't clear enough. As of right now I'm not willing to believe that we'll all be chased away by pitchforks, but I'm also not willing to believe that they'll do a thing (you know, unless some vigilantes from a ultra right-wing nut job group decides to take an interest in a certain comm and then ALL bets are off).

It seems that anything that isn't graphic is fine. But this is fandom and fandom lives for the graphic stuff.

Well, LJ is the ultimate decider of what is and is not in violation so they can basically suspend people at will. Well, that was always true, it just feels like the environment is a tad bit more hostile than it was yesterday.

I agree that they timed the announcement well -- that isn't to say LJ won't be spazzing out while simultaneously flipping out over book 7. Oh, fandom, I love you even if you're sometimes crazy.

I just hope this news doesn't fade into obscurity by the time everyone's back from their hiatuses. I'm sure that's what LJ was hoping, too, which ticks me off that much more.

I'm not about to get banned for these things, but I know A LOT of people who could be banned. Like over half my flist. For that one fic two years ago when they wrote season 2 B/S, or when they posted that Ron/Draco manip or... You get my drift.

Oh yeah. I'm worried that they'll randomly spring up on people now (like last time. At least, to an extent last time) and people won't exactly know what's going on due to the hiatus.

I'm the same -- lot of my friends list, and I've done one or two things myself, though as of late it's the Wincest variety, but it's still annoying to have that worry hanging there (especially for things written years ago, too!). Argh. It's frustrating.

To an extent I think this is only to cover their asses and they're not planning on doing ANYTHING. But I also think they did it at this time because IF they have to do anything they'll be able to point to it and say: "But we already told you about it, it's your own damn fault for not reading it."

As for Wincest, I would not feel at all safe just because they didn't single out incest (I almost wrote wincest again, because apparently I've become so indoctrinated that incest to me, at this point, only involves Sam and Dean), that doesn't mean it won't be added later, or that they won't just come down hard on it and point out that it's illegal in the US (I'm just gonna assume here that it's illegal in all 50 states).

i think perhaps the lj MO-rons aren't comprehending the fact that most fic is about fictional characters. stupidstupidstupid.

Apparently they're now talking about obscenity laws and stuff that goes way over my head (mostly because I just don't care enough to learn about the legal system of a country I don't live in), but where fictional characters are, apparently, reason enough to bring it to court.

Is SCREENER season how everyone got The Black D's (I will butcher it) like a year in advance? I just finished Dexter 1x01 and 1x02 and I feel like Deb and Rita (Julie Benz) deserved to be shortlisted at least. I mean season 1 of Dexter was really good. And so far this season is good. I kind of think the new character will be someone Dex meets in AA. Since he now has to pretend his addiction.

And I feel scared for the HP fandom. I mean a majority of LJ is going offline/hiatus JUST to be away from the drama. Little do they know, LJ is planning to wipe them away.

PS: Did you get Reaper from a torrent site or no?

Never mind I found Reaper.

Yes, that's how. (It's "Donnellys", by the way.)

Shortlisted for the Emmys, or what? I guess, but I never expect anyone who's actually worthy of a nomination to get one. Jenna was a nice surprise, but I would not have been at all shocked if she hadn't gotten a nod, nor will it surprise me if she doesn't win.
