Eskimo Kisses, Part II
Joel woke up to Eskimo kisses.
Tangerine hair and pale forehead, flushed cheeks, brown eyes. He kissed her and the world was bright grey, the flea market an adventure.
Their world was spontaneous, gritty but beautiful, and so strange. People they did not know cried over its loss and mourned its absence.
But Joel and Clementine laughed and ran through snowy beaches, wandered in stranger’s houses. They played flashlight Jenga with laughing faces and did not care what people thought when they blew air at each other through green straws in nice restaurants.
He hid her deeper, but in vain; they caught her in the end and it was over.
But Joel only fell asleep after Eskimo kisses.
