This needs to stop.

So, I thought if I kept entertaining all the plot bunnies for this ship and getting them out on page, I could get over it and go back to writing other stuff. I was sorely mistaken.

Lost Scene

Nymphadora Tonks seemed incapable of tearing her eyes from the image in front of her. She could only watch as Mr. and Mrs. Weasley stood over Fleur, who was applying ointment to Bill’s face with a look of determination. Tonks knew that look well, she’d worn it herself when she’d had to mend Remus’ wounds last year after various run-ins with the other side. Letting her eyes rake over the room. Tonks noticed that Ron had his arm around Hermione, her resting on his shoulder, Luna had wandered over to look after Neville, and Ginny was still staring at the door Harry had exited through just minutes before. “A little more love in the world,” McGonagall had said and with a start, Tonks realized Remus was no longer in the hospital ward. She thought he must have slipped out after Harry and McGonagall left and she made to go after him, but a voice stopped her momentarily.

“You know he’s just doing it for some stupid, noble reason,” Tonks turned toward the voice and saw Ginny smiling faintly, “and those reasons don’t stand up too well against earnest challenges.” Tonks was slightly taken aback by this insight until she remembered who Ginny was dating, so she settled on giving a slight nod and a small smile before she walked purposefully out the door. It was only then Tonks realized she hadn’t the faintest idea where Remus could have gone. So she walked, her feet leading her in directions she had not dictated. Corridors and stairs melted into one another until she was standing just behind him with no idea how she’d gotten there. He was standing in front of a large, open window, the sky beyond him just turning from inky blackblue to softest pink. Tonks covered the distance between them and came to a rest at his side, saying nothing. The two stood for what felt like days but must only have been seconds and then she slid her hand through his, looking up to carefully watch his expression.

“You don’t care?” he asked, turning soft eyes toward her face.

“No,” she said simply, a smile tugging a bit at her lips. Had he really not believed that until now? Remus raised her hand to his mouth and kissed her fingers before slipping his hand out of hers and kissing her palm, as well.

“It won’t be easy,” he sighed, though he seemed comfortable with this fact.

“The best things usually aren’t. I don’t mind,” she couldn’t help it, a small smile escaped the restraints of tightened nerves. But somehow, it didn’t seem an inappropriate gesture, even with all that had transpired. Something felt right.

Remus pulled her closer to him and she buried her head in his chest, feeling safe despite everything. Remus fingered her mousy brown locks and sighed, “I’m so sorry.”

“Don’t be,” she said, remembering Ginny’s words, “you can’t be blamed for taking up in some stupid, noble reasoning.” He grimaced slightly and was silent for a bit.

“So, now what?” he asked finally. Tonks rested her chin on his chest and peered up at him.

“Well, that’s the beauty of it. I don’t know.” And they both smiled.
