Last week I purchased two Victorian-esque shirts, and some hair clips with feathers and jewels on them. To say the least I'm excited; I've been looking for more button-downs to complete my wardrobe, and I finally feel as though I'm taking a step in the right direction. If anything my personal style leans more towards the vintage side of goth, and anyone who saw me last year in LARP know this about me very well: Sam once said that if I ever become famous, my favorite eras will be known as "the Tanya years," which I think is hilarious. Of course I might also be the type of person to throw on a T-shirt and jeans, but on some days it's nice to dress up and actually feel good about yourself. Almost everything about goth appeals to me--the lifestyle, the mindset, the way of dress. Obviously the potential snobbery and accidental racism don't, but there are goths who are Asian, African-American, Indian, Native American, etc. It's just the fact that no one really sees them due to various cultural things.
A lot of my confidence about doing this--about actually dressing like how I've wanted to for years--has been because of college. My friends seem accepting and willing to sit down and talk with me about things, and are open-minded enough to actually let me say "I'm still me, and very little has actually changed." I'm only worried about alienating people, I don't know, but that's...a little lame, maybe? On the one hand, if people can't really see my personality through the way I'd like to dress, then it's their business--I go to a liberal arts college, and if anything I should be a little more accepted here than if I were going somewhere else.
Tonight Justin and I did Sushi-giving with Brianna and Alex, with Toby helping to eat a little. Justin and I made 21 rolls total, which came to about three and a half plates or thereabouts. It was ridiculous, and now we have what seems like infinite sushi waiting in the fridge. I slept for four hours tonight because of it. Speaking of the fridge, I was halfway tempted to just throw everything in that blasted thing out tonight. I'm sorry, but that Sprite someone left in there isn't going to be fizzy come the end of break. This coming week I'm going to have a throw out party, probably just involving me, and will wait for people to come complain to me in an obvious location. Maybe I will make a sign. Dinner at Jeremiah's parent's house was really nice, but their dogs are kind of crazy sometimes. The female dog kept putting her full weight on the younger male to the point where he kept collapsing under her. I felt super bad for him.
So yeah. I received the epic package of jewelry that Alexis sent me sometime last week I believe, but keep forgetting to email her about that. Sorry Alexis! I'm going to make a checkout system for things like LARPs. I also created a more official check out form for the library and cabinet, because the dinky little pieces of notebook paper aren't really doing the job. When we have a book out for four months and no real way of contacting people, there's a problem. It might not be the best solution, but it's certainly a better option than sheets of notebook paper that aren't doing their jobs.
Maggie also visited this week, which was spectacular. I miss her a lot, and can't wait for her to come back next semester. (Also her kitty, which I will try to snuggle with all the time.) I want to do art! During winter break I'm going to try to obtain some astrojax (maybe for Christmas?) and attempt to learn some tricks, as well as some sleight of hand from a book I purchased at Powell's two years ago. Astrojax certainly seem like a good way to get myself moving and thinking in a different way than I'm used to. The Aqua astrojax are super pretty, but I don't really know what to buy out of all four of the types otherwise, because the Aquas might not be for an inexperienced person. Maggie, what do you think?
In other news, I think that somebody on second floor left their alarm on. I keep hearing "beep! beep! beep!" coming from someone's room, and I might call security tomorrow if that person doesn't come back by then.
Also: another game idea for next semester, but it involves messing around with some of NWoD's systems somewhat. We'll see.
the astonishing adventures of me,
gothy thoughts,
astrojax!
