If it ain't one thing, it's another

So, I went to orientation today. Guess what?

Too many students, not enough places in the nursing class.

58 spots are available, 78 students have applied.

This means the herd needs to be culled by 20 spots, or roughly 25%.

Actually, 21 people were already accepted based on having enough of what they go by to determine who gets in. So, that means there are 37 spots for 57 people - or a 35% cull.

Is my GPA high enough in case there is a tie? These odds certainly don't allow for much wiggle room.

I'll know for sure if I'm in or not either later this week or early next week.

grumble

I am, however, giving myself major props for freaking out and being a nervous eater over this situation, as I was (am) wont to do in the past (currently).  I managed to talk myself out of, in order: Burger King onion rings, a bag of Doritos, taco salad and/or nachos from Taco Bell, an almond torte from a fabulous bakery nearby, and a package of peanut M&Ms.  I wound up gorging myself (heh) on 2 white cheddar rice cakes, a chocolate rice cake, and a banana - which adds up to far less than any of the above would have been, except quite possibly being on par with a package of peanut M's. But really, how satisfying is one package of M&M's?

Plus sides if I don't get in:

- I can stay working full time. Going from $40K a year to living on part-time wages with parental subsidy is a real shock to the system, not to mention blow to the ego.

- I can pick up a class that counts for the points system, which will guaran-fucking-tee me a spot in the Winter semester.

Sheesh. by the time I start, I'll be where I would be finishing if I had started at the beginning of all this.  Ah, the best laid plans...
