the Cleveland Marathon is on May 20...

...And I'm running it!

I'll let that sink in for a minute.

I know, I know. I haven't really been running much (or at all) since I've moved to Cleveland. And my running production in Boston was much lower than it had been last spring when I had a boot camp partner. But, that's just the thing, I've always been a better runner when I had a coach and running partners. And now I've found a reason that's much greater than myself: Raising money for leukemia research.

After watching the Boston Marathon last April, I was pretty inspired by all the people running for Team In Training. I thought that that would be a pretty cool thing to do, but since I was drinking beer while spectating, it wasn't anything I was thinking about too seriously, and to be honest, I sort of forgot about the organization.

However, about a month ago, I received a letter in the mail inviting me to an informational meeting at the Lakewood Library for the Northeastern Ohio division of Team In Training. I went to the meeting and was really excited by what I heard and saw. I feel like this is something that I really want to do for myself, and being able to do it for a good cause is even better.

So yeah, in case you don't know, Team In Training requires participants to raise money in exchange for running coaches and training schedules and clinics and gear. Small price to pay, I think. I have to raise $1600 to participate in the Cleveland Marathon, but I've decided to set my goal at $2000 and see how I do. I have until late April, so I'm hopeful.

Don't worry, if you're one of the half-dozen people who checks out this blog, I'm sure you'll be getting more information from me soon. But just as a disclaimer, there will be absolutely no hard feelings if anyone chooses not to donate. I know what it's like to be on a tight budget, believe me. Donations can be made completely anonymously, too. I just wanted to throw that out there.

Anyway, if you want to check out my (fledgling) site, go here. I'm planning on updating with training stories, pics, etc. once I get started. Training officially kicks off on Dec. 9, but I plan to get my muscles loosened up after work production/Thanksgiving weekend is over.

So. That's the big news. 26.2 miles. Holy crap.
