nissans in nebraska

I saw a commercial for a Nissan Pathfinder tonight that asks the driver of said vehicle to ponder what would happen if he were to take a road trip and only turn left. The opening image is of a car turning left in a big circle around--wait for it--Carhenge! Good ol Carhenge, the monument to Stonehenge parked (har) just outside of Alliance, NE.

I'm not as adept at picking up commercial clips online as some of my fellow bloggers (I did locate a Pathfinder commercial that is strictly bouncing boobs, but decided not to put that up here. Sorry.) So, you will have to settle for stills to help you imagine the commercial.

Pathfinder...

Carhenge from above...

Carhenge from the ground...

If I had a scanner, I could put pictures of ME at Carhenge on this blog, because yes, they do exist. I stopped there when I drove with my friend Mark from Minden to Chadron for our friend Lindsey's wedding. We stopped at all sorts of crazy Nebraska "tourist attractions" to help the 7ish hour drive go a little faster. Carhenge might have been the crown jewel among stops that also included Big Ole's Game & Steakhouse in Paxton (to see the stuffed polar bear) and Boot Hill in Ogalalla. Of course, nothing really impresses you anymore after growing up in Minden--home of Pioneer Village (P-Vill to the local yocals.)

Regardless, any time Nebraska gets national recognition for something other than being a "Red" state--politics or Huskers--it grabs my attention. Even if it is for a Nissan commercial.

It also provides a beautiful segue for me, because, speaking of Nebraska, I will be there on Thursday. My brother is graduating from high school on Sunday, so I am taking Friday and Monday off work. I'm flying into Omaha late Thursday night, spending Friday in Omaha catching up with some dearly missed friends (and seeing Tess get "hooded") before heading back to Minden that night. I know Saturday and Sunday will be a whirlwind of activity as I attempt to help my mom with the final preparations for Wade's graduation party, get my hair cut, attend his honors night, get drunk with some old friends, go to graduation, see all of my extended family, and then drive back to Omaha Monday morning to get back on a plane.

Whew. Just typing it makes me tired, but I can't wait to see my fam and my dog and have TWO WHOLE DAYS off from work. That in and of itself is amazing.

I wish I could stay longer so I could see more people, but it will be a nice trip and I think the weather's supposed to be great. And I'm going to have a rental car and put in at least six good hours on the Interstate, so I'm looking forward to some driving time, too. Sometimes it's the little things...

Anyway, next time you see that Nissan commercial, think of me. ;)
