record-setting performance

Since starting my job in January, I honestly can not remember going out three nights in a row during the week. I don't believe it's happened before. Until this week. That makes my social performance this week a new record.

Even though I will never get used to the early hours (who wants to get up at 5:45 a.m.?), my body is finally starting to--a little, anyway--adjust to the schedule and stay awake later in the evenings. I've spent so much of my recent life as a night owl (see college and grad school), going to bed early wasn't making me very happy. It wasn't jiving with my internal rhythms, but it became a necessity. Only adding to the frustration is that all the out-of-whackness my body is going through is a direct result of a job I do not enjoy.

I don't know if it's new-found resolve or the four month hurdle I'm about to clear at work, but I hope it sticks around. On Tuesday I saw The Strokes, on Wednesday I saw a le'artsy play, and tonight I went out for dinner and drinks. Whew. Take that, stupid early a.m. subway ride.

I'm sure that tomorrow night, an actual "weekend" night, I will be too tired to move too far off the couch, but hey, at least I can say it's because of my social life and not because of a long week at work.
