I've been lousy at updating this blog lately... Not sure if I'm losing interest, lacking interesting (wait, is this blog EVER interesting?) topics, or just plain too busy. I'm going to go with some combination of all the above...
Regardless, I do have some pics I want to post, but they're not on this computer. I figured I'd do a little recap session now, and post pics later this evening. That way it's a two-parter. Like the EXCELLENT Grey's Anatomy season finale.
Who'll Stop the Rain?
Today was the first day I have seen the sun since Friday, May 6. Boston has been posing as Seattle for the past week--bookend that with a weekend in Nebraska with lousy weather, and that's one long stretch of sunless May. I thought the showers were supposed to happen in April, people. We should be in full-on flower mode.
The flooding in Massachusetts is actually pretty serious--it's not affecting Boston much, but the north shore suburbs are a mess. Today and tomorrow will be a short breather, before we settle in to another week of rain forcasted for every day. Gross.
We laughed. We cried. We hurled objects at the TV
Three hours of Grey's Anatomy finale = some primo television viewing. About 10 people were over for part one on Sunday and I watched part two with Laura, Mac and Heather (along with some excellent dinner) on Monday. Grey's Anatomy is a delicious, frothy, sexy, completely not-challenging-to-watch series. And I love it for that.
Graduation? What graduation?
BU's graduation ceremony was last weekend. I didn't participate, but I heard it was lovely and that Ashley's speech was fabulous. (I want to see the video, please!) I think that if I had still been in school this semester, I may have walked. But by this point, I'm already a "seasoned" employee that complains about her job. Who needs graduation when you're paying union dues?
Oh, that graduation
Even though I didn't walk, several wonderful people were back in Boston for the festivities. Namely one Jason Lowell and Neil & Brooklynn. It was so great to see each one of them--Boston is much nicer when they are all here. And, a certain person who happens to share the same last name with the Boston Red Sox third-baseman (he shares the last name because they are COUSINS) happened to secure three tickets in the FAMILY section at Fenway. Twenty rows up, directly behind home plate, second row under the overhang. It was a nasty night (both score and weather-wise) and the game got called in the 6th--Texas winning, six to nuthin'. Although a bit chilly, the overhang offered enough protection, and we were still enjoying beer and hotdogs when the unfortunate fans in the rest of the stands cleared out. Even though we didn't see a complete game, we did stick around for the 48 minute rain delay, exploring sections of Fenway--including the ground-level seats on the third base line--that people don't get to see unless they have amazing tickets or participate in a Fenway tour.
Hello, Nebraska
I'm not going to talk to much about my weekend home. It was hectic, but in a good way. It's always great to see the fam, my dog, and a few good friends. Wade successfully graduated from high school and I met his girlfriend. I tried to give him a little "big sister" advice too, so he'd stop giving my mom so much grief during his last summer at home before college. Not sure if it made a dent...but my brother's a cool kid, he'll be fine.
The one completely unexpected part of my trip home was getting to see my favorite tool from Augustana--Lynn. She randomly text-messaged me on Friday to tell me she was just outside of Omaha--thinking it would be funny for me to see back in Boston. Little did she know that I was spending the day in Omaha with Nate and Tess. Whoa! So, though it was short and in the middle of BFE (even for Nebraska/Iowa), I got to see Lynn for a bit. It was very nice because I hadn't seen her in almost a year. Apparently her boyfriend races cars and they were at a race track outside of Council Bluffs, IA (the geographic equivalent to Omaha as Bettendorf is to Moline.)
Other than that...
I think that about catches you up to speed. I've been keeping myself busy with a few side projects--including reading the 1000th issue of Rolling Stone cover to cover (which I finished last night). Hopefully I'll have some more interesting developments to write about in the near future. Right now, I'm just patiently(?) waiting for summer to arrive in Boston.
Tune in soon for pictures.
