Some things I thought I might bring to your attention this morning.

1. Despite a week of sun (freezing! but sun) and a couple of days of scattered showers there is still no fresh green anywhere. Everything is yellow/brown from being squashed under snow. It is a tad distressing, but the more common emotion is a wee ripple of fear that the apocalypse came and no-one told us and there's gonna be no spring growth this year. Dear World. Plz not to be sending The Apocalypse yet, I haven't learnt how to shear sheep!

(Despite all this I couldn't help thinking as the train rattled its way across the high Pennines through a hopeful Friday morning, the scattered sunny periods chasing shadows across the uplands with the lambs playing merrily in the fields that ran right up to the tracks, that I might be jobless, living with my parents and incredibly skint, but this is a most beautiful place for it)

2. We finally dug the Christmas trees out of the garden on Saturday (sun = no longer frost solid ground). Point of information, a 15 ft tree weighs a goodly amount. The folk at the reservoir/nature thingie were pleased if a little surprised at the size and I strained a groin muscle but was very brave and didn't let on and thus there was no mocking laughter. We can now get on with building the fence - which means we can then finish up the back snicket, and then we can get the men in to re-arrange the garden in the house that jack built. (And I get a week off fencing this week as papa is down in southern land parent sitting).

3. Today is the day I venture into the dole office and request monies. The agency haven't found me anything yet and the bank account is starting to creak at the joins (see above) so there's nothing else for it. Hopefully I don't have to fill in the massively long and complicated form in on the spot but can come back later for "interview". I shall reward myself by a trip to the library. They have comfy chairs and my legs will be somewhat tired after walking all the way in (no bus fare and tis only 3 miles after all - all downhill).

4. The cat is trying to catch imaginary things in the back room and yowling miserably when they fail to appear... She's obviously been affected by the spring JimJams and is having a whale of a time flitting about the house and occasionally slipping on the tiles (heee - scrabbling cat)

ETA: Having phoned the job people they want me to go in tomorrow and be interviewed to see if I deserve money (I do deserve money, I do, I do!). The newest place is at the top of the hill instead of the bottom. Yay for living in an uppy-downy county. Oh yus. As a reward I am cooking chicken and apricot tagine for tea. It shall be AMAZING!
