Day 2: On the Ohio Valley Line (9/9)

Sep 09, 2021 23:12

LEXINGTON - Keeping to our theme of stretching things, we had breakfast in the hotel before leaving at about 10.

Creeping south on state roads and into Kentucky, we ended up stopping what turned out to be a picnic lunch at Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park, claimed as the site of the final battle of the Revolutionary War in August 1782 - though Wikipedia references the Siege of Fort Henry (Wheeling) in September.

After watching the front-desk clerk trying to wrangle her three school-age children in to some sense of order, I dropped off our luggage in the second free room of our trip (Red Roof) and then headed to the UK campus.

Our cousin graduated from UK; so as a reminder to wash your hands, a sign posted next to the sinks in the student union suggested that you sing the fight song. But since today is his sister’s birthday, I posted on Facebook that “Happy Birthday” always works better.

Today’s start time was 6:31 for the newly-co-owned Power and Lexington Legends. Needless to say, Chad got these tickets free, as well. The game went back and forth into the 10th inning, with the Power winning 5-4.
