It's a Brangelina world, and all I get is a Mercedes

Related to yesterday's post:
Mom told me at dinner that my uncle and his wife (technically, step-aunt v.2) Shirley adopted a little girl.

Well, not just any little girl; it's Shirley's granddaughter Mercedes.

So now, the 4-year-old -- I think she's 4 -- moves up in my book from step-second cousin to step-first cousin. And, as with all little girls, she's "the cutest little thing". (As a matter of fact, I've mentioned her uncle before; he woke up everybody in his apartment building, rescuing them from a fire in an adjoining structure last March.)

It seems that Mercedes' mother is a bit too much into better living through chemicals, and mama Shirley got fed up with it.

I'm just curious about how my uncle will play this out.

Yes, his other child was also adopted, but as far as I know there was no relationship with his birth family. But in the case of "Mom and stepdaddy have taken my child away from me," that's going to require a level of finesse my uncle probably doesn't have. Because, when it comes to personal interaction, my uncle has no firewall. If you're different then it's probably your fault, and he'll let you know HBO-style.

I guess I'll just sit back and watch. Whatever... it's nice to have une cousine on Dad's side of the family.

mercedes, family, kids
