Adopting a Baby Ruth

Jan 11, 2007 20:19

I just found out from my friend David's mom that he and his wife adopted a baby girl from Guatemala. And while I'm a little upset I didn't hear about it before now -- although his mom swears she told Chad -- it's a wonderful Christmas gift.

Seven-month-old Ruth joins David, mom Kim, and five-year-old natural-born Ana in Colorado Springs. (Given the weather in Colorado the last couple months though, I might've considered staying in Guatemala.)

A quick timeline, as the story-in-brief is interesting.

August: Ruth is assigned -- surely there's a better word -- to David and Kim.

Dec 17: Kim goes to Guatemala to take custody, but Ruth doesn't have an entry visa. Kim had to meet with US Embassy officials in Guatemala City, but couldn't get an appointment until 1/3.

Dec 24: David and Ana fly down to join Kim for Christmas.

Jan 3: The embassy grants Ruth the entry visa.

Tuesday: They were finally able to get tickets out of town and arrive back in the Springs. (David and Ana's Houston-bound plane had to return to the terminal with a blown tire; he's grateful that the replacement tire survived the landing. Kim and Ruth returned via LAX.)
