Happy Birthday to Me! :D

May 06, 2005 18:06

Thanks to everyone for the lovely birthday wishes. It’s been a good day, extremely hectic though. There will be no relaxing for me in the near future it seems. The summary below will attest to that. So, within the next few weeks, I’m planning a long weekend just for me. That’s going to be my present to myself. I think I’ll need it if I survive this weekend.

Squee! A friend gave birth to her first child yesterday; cool birth date 5/5/5, although I was hoping he would be born on my BD. I’m already enamored with this adorably sweet baby named Jackson and he’s already figured out my boobs make a good pillow for napping. I’m so happy for my friend; she’s going to be such a good mommy.

Last night, I took my nephew to a reading fair at his elementary school. A local children’s book author, Nancy Kelly Allen, read to the kids and did a book signing. Also, some of the kids read their own works aloud, nephew included :D, and there were lots of activities encouraging kids to read and use the library. I was pretty impressed with it and I loved the life-sized Dobby exhibit! I’ll post a pic of Dobby later.

I wasn’t going to work today yet I had to go in to deal a project emergency.

Quick summary for the rest of the weekend:

Visit/welcome new baby in hospital/home

ALso visit/check on sister’s M-I-L who was admitted to hospital yesterday (blood clot in lung)

Red Letter Days/Celebrations: My birthday is today, my mother’s BD is tomorrow, Mother’s Day on Sunday, and my nephew turns 8 on Tuesday, the 10th. This has been officially declared Let Them Eat Cake! week.

Two soccer games this weekend (son/nephew)

My teenager’s prom is Saturday night. So, 6 - 8 pm family/friends will be at the house/school being blinded by the brilliance of my shining star. He’s also working tonight 6 pm - 12 midnight and tomorrow morning 6 am - 12 noon. That’s just lovely; he’ll be such a grouchy git to wake at 5:30 in the morning.

At some time and point in all this, a few friends want to get together. Maybe late tonight or tomorrow after 8 pm? Raincheck?

Last night, we got a call that my uncle and his family will be arriving today for a visit. OMG, I have to clean the house! This is the uncle from SC who has been diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. This is his third fight with cancer and his first six weeks of chemo/radiation was not successful so he’s now trying an experimental chemo treatment. If this doesn’t work, the doctors say he may only have a few months left. I don’t even know if he’s strong enough to make the trip but he’s intent on coming home one more time. This will be the first time we’ve seen him since he began chemo and I’m afraid my mom is not going to handle it well when she sees her brother. I hope we can make this visit more happy than sad.

Another downer: A very close friend called and needs to talk privately about her marital problems. Aww Shee-it! My friends know not to ask for my opinion unless they want the truth. This is her fourth marriage. She’s been married four times to my once. She thinks I’m too cautious and I think she’s too reckless. We’re complete opposites yet oddly enough, the friendship works. Maybe we balance each other out but I don’t believe Quick Draw and Gun Shy are qualified to handle this one. I’ve already got an idea of what’s going on and I’m going to suggest marital counseling. I hope she’ll consider it.

Also, I must get to the bank or ATM or I will have to survive on my charm this weekend and I don’t think that’s going to get me very far.

I know I overextend myself but there’s not one thing above that can be marked off the list of things I absolutely have to do. That’s already the narrowed down list. I didn't really have the free time to type it but it was therapeutic. Since I have the emotional range of a teaspoon, I may just explode.

If all this stuff is part of a master plan to distract me from the fact that I’ve gotten a year older, it’s not necessary! Age is not an issue. I’m 41, btw, and I’m better, stronger, and wiser for it. Life is good but I would, however, like to relax for at least a nanosecond. Surely, that’s not too much to ask. One of my presents today was a gift certificate for a massage; uh, I-Need-It-NOW!

I guess it’s time for me to make an appearance in RL now. *deep breath*

Hope everyone has a great weekend! Thank you again for the birthday wishes!
