Seven White Gates: 2 by
Malcolm Saville My rating:
4 of 5 stars This is the second book in the Lone Pine series, and opens with Peter returning to Shropshire and instigating a gathering of the Lone Pine Club.
The first half of the book feels like a bit of a slow-burner, as the characters start setting up their headquarters, as well as adding another member, Jenny, who I presume is in later titles.
The real adventure/mystery aspect of the book starts about half way through when Mary and Dickie become curious about Peter's Uncle Micah, and follow him out at night. There are also a group of mysterious "Black Riders" roaming around, and nobody is really sure who they are.
I found this to be an easier read than the first book, Mystery at Witchend, as it felt like a simpler narrative. I wished Jenny could have had more to do, since it is her first appearance in the series, but I really enjoyed reading about Mary and Dickies' misadventures, as well as how the story developed the character of Uncle Micah.
I hope to read some more of the books in this series at some point.
