After my recent series of mini-dissertations, a change of pace.
Robin DiAngelo's
Nice Racism: How Progressive White People Perpetuate Racial Harm provides for an opportunity to offer a succinct
Book Review No. 4.
The correct answer to that "how" is "by
enabling dysfunction and
calling it affirming diversity." That's not where she goes, but it takes about 200 pages, mostly confessing her perceived errors and including a collection of twee questions for book club discussions at the end, to suggest that it's impossible to be a woke white wine woman, and the best thing to do might be to retreat to the sitting room and sip that wine. Andrea Widburg
recently nailed the message in two sentences. "The bottom line is that those crazy, hysterical, self-flagellating leftist white women get in the way of the crazy, hysterical, and self-celebrating leftist black women. This was, of course, inevitable, considering that leftism makes people crazy." Bingo.
