For A Friend of Mine

Roads Never Traveled

I've buried my heart beneath the highway

Lost between those endless lines

There's tar sticking in this throat

Yellow, white dripping reflections

Falling from my bruising body

And though you've tried to hold me (countless times)

The distance between us

Its going to choke me

The asphalt of these confounded miles

Burns like ice, don't make me smile anymore

Still counting potholes (from my house to your Home)

Still counting sunsets seen without you

Damn these numbers

Damn your eyes!

Not once have they ever looked into mine

Yet, you could witness the storm clouds of my soul

And not one thing would change...

Your heart is breaking into mine

And I think to the open sky, it isn't fair

That you care so much for someone

Who's never been there

friend, writing, poetry, distance
