I'll come back for you but for you only. Not to be King. Since when did I ever give you the impression I know the first thing about ruling a country? I can command a small squad, sure, but that's a completely different set of skills. I would have suggested Klaus as someone who does know how all that works but I guess that's not an option any more.
Coming back because it's you who asked, that's a different matter. I want us to be honest about our feelings for each other. When you told me you were getting married, you looked like a man going to their execution. There was a reason you came to me on that day, not to the close friends you actually knew well, like Rusty or Klaus. There's a reason you ask me back constantly and I'm quite sure that the idea of me possibly being a good candidate for a King just because I'm currently popular as a national hero is just an excuse.
It makes my heart glad that you still want me back, that you would suggest a plan that, if it worked, would mean you could constantly be at my side, to protect me as you did so well in the old days.
I don't want a loyal subject, Sir Archibald, or a shield. I want the man who holds that shield. If I may be so blunt, I would like to see what is underneath that armour. If you would like me to lay down my own sword and surrender to you in such a manner, then please reply in due haste and I will be outside the gates of Alexandria as fast as Popo's winds can take me.
(By the way, while I realise the possible political powder keg this would ignite, I would seriously recommend Hilda as Queen. She would sacrifice literally anything for her nation and has more experience than you can imagine. She's a harsh and fierce mother, yes, but they all are, who can protect their children.)

"Yeah, I know the place," he sighed, "Efi, you'll never, ever get into that place in a million years. It's not for people as good and pure as you."
"I know the people there aren't nice. I need to go, though. It's real, real important."
"You do understand that you're looking for a piece of hay in a haystack, right? Everyone in there has probably lied, cheated and committed at least one major felony every morning before breakfast. Possibly to obtain breakfast."
"I know which one I'm looking for," she insisted, "It's the biggest of all. And the most dangerous. And... it's an outsider? The others have been there a long time, I mean, an impossibly long time even for a dragon. So long I think I must have made a mistake. He's... just arrived... sort of..." she screwed up her face, then yelped and clutched her head.
"Be careful there, okay. What the hell have you been dreaming about?" he demanded, "If it's there, it can't be something kids are supposed to know about. Are you sure there aren't bigger dragons who can sort it out?"
"What other dragons can eat lies?"
"It's definitely just a lie?"
"Not 'just' a lie. This lie... it's hard to explain but it feels like it can grow big enough to eat the entire world if I don't stop it right now. Please," she begged, "I need to go right now. Before it's too late. To the big rock with all the storms."
