Today I went to see The Hunger Games with Casey at 1pm. I thought our tickets were for the Moolah but they were actually for the StL Cinema at the Chase. After that mistake was realized we rushed over to the Central West End, found a great parking spot, dashed in, got great seats and too much popcorn, and enjoyed the film. It was a great movie! Tense, sad, exciting, etc. I am very excited to read the books after such an experience.
I'm glad we ended up at the Chase, because after the movie we decided to take a little walk around the Central West End. The day was perfect. The weather was mild and calm, and the entire CWE was in bloom. Spring has enthusiastically arrived and it was nice to slow down and take in all the beautiful pink, white, and purple flowering trees overhead and the vibrant tulips and daffodils below that line the streets in the gated neighborhoods. I like that the historic streets aren't super manicured. Everything's just a little bit wild, and the unkempt verdant plants have taken over that charming neighborhood after years of growth and renewal. The flowers and the architecture and the overgrown ivy all combine to make the Central West End remind me so much of the Secret Garden. It was very romantic and relaxing to walk aimlessly together. We both regretted not having his new camera with us on such a shady, beautiful spring day, but without it we were able to focus on each other and our surroundings a lot more. It was a perfect afternoon walk.
And now, back to work. At least I got away from it all for a bit - It is moments like this afternoon that make life rich and work worth it. Happily, my table is covered with two vases full of purple roses left over from the conference centerpieces. It's nice to bring a bit of the spring beauty in with me!
