So Tuesday I had lunch with Carol, and yesterday, Thursday, my Mom was unexpectedly stranded at the St. Louis airport on her way back to CO from France. Huzzah for impromptu mom & daughter time! Her flight was cancelled so I had to pick her up to spend the night with me. Good chatting and visiting before sending her on her way this morning. Although I am sure it was a hassle for her, it was nice to randomly get to see my Mom, hang out together in my apartment, have some wine, chat, and then take her to the airport again this morning.
Just glad my apartment was somewhat presentable! I've been working hard on getting it back in order after the weeks of traveling and holidays and visiting made a mess of it all.
And then today I scheduled to have lunch with Katie, the new MA grad student. We ate at Pi in the CWE and had a nice time chatting. I think we're hitting it off well and I invited her to come with me and Ivy to the outlet mall when we go! (YAY OUTLET MALL!)
This evening Casey and I made Fajitas. he meal cost us $10 total. And they were WAY better than the expensive fajitas at the cancun airport. Casey+Amy+Fajitas=WIN!
In other Casey related news, for our anniversary Casey got me flowers. At first I was like, "Hey, he got me lilies! That's sweet cause he knows they're my favorite flower!" And then I noticed the wax flowers in the arrangement (which I love cause they look like little lego flowers), and "I was like wow, this looks a lot like my wedding bouquet!" Which is when he was like, "DOES it?!" haha. He got me a replica of my bridal bouquet from our wedding 1 year ago. It's more like an interpretation - some of the colors are a bit different, based on what the florist here had available, but the pink and purple color scheme and all the flower types are the same - the lilies, the lisianthus, whatever those gorgeous white ones are, the wax flowers - down to the leaves it's the same foliage! I thought that was incredibly sweet and romantic of him to bring back a detail from our wedding on our anniversary, and I'm going to love watching it bloom on my kitchen table over the next week. I'll post a photo of it when more of the buds are open. <3
On a side note, due to all these big meals and visiting and eating and celebrating and vacationing, I am FULL like all the time. So full. UGH SO FULL. "As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again!" (name that movie)
Just in case you were wondering, this is what I wore to French class and to hang out with my mommy on Thursday.
Black tee: Ann Taylor Loft
Turquoise Cami: American Eagle, Gift from Mom
Jean Shorts: cut offs made by me from an old pair of GLO jeans from Kohls
Black Wedges: Some Italian brand whose name I can't remember, Off Broadway show warehouse
Earrings: Mexico Souvenir
Malachite/Turquoise Ring: ONE OF A KIND! I made it in high school. Go me.
Jewelry shots
I love wearing my new square earrings with my old square ring. The shapes and colors go so well!
I made this ring in like, 2001, and I'm still really proud of it a decade later. It's the only thing I made in my high school jewelry class that I might actually wear. I made cool things, but I always tried to go a step beyond what the assignment called for - try something harder/cooler - and the project usually didn't turn out as graceful as I imagined, and I ended up with some cool and complicated, but kind of goofy-looking jewelry. If I had stuck to the basics of the assigned projects, I would have a lot more wearable stuff to show off and remember the class by today. BUT I wouldn't have had nearly as much fun, challenged myself and learned as much as I did, or impressed the teacher. And I can never resist being a teacher's pet.
I'm also including a closeup of my Mexico earrings. I asked the man what stone they were, and he told me in Spanish, and then I forgot it in Spanish too. They're not turquoise; they're something different. I'm sad all the gem/semi-precious stone knowledge I accrued as a kid going to all those rock shows with Jamie and building my extensive rock collection didn't come through for me on this one! If you know what it is, let me know. Otherwise I'll have to wait til I see my geologist uncle again.
And for good measure, here's a shot of my shoes. I love these wedges and have had them for several years now, but don't wear them enough. I wish the wedge/heel part weren't so tan and casual so I could wear them in fancier circumstances.
